Casio module 3495: user manual and setup (GW-5000U)

The module number is engraved on the case back of the watch. It is a four-digit number written separately from the model name. If it says 3495, this guide applies to your watch. The description follows the official Casio manual for module 3495.

Which watches have module 3495

Module 3495 is a digital module with an LCD display. The watch has a rechargeable battery and receives a radio signal for accurate time. The manual describes the alarm, stopwatch, timer, World Time and display illumination. The models with this module at Classic are:

How to set the time and date

The manual provides two ways to set the time. The first is automatic reception of a time calibration signal. The second is manual setting through watch operations. The general order of steps is as follows:

1. Check that the watch is charged. The "Charging" section of the manual describes charging.
2. Place the watch in a suitable location for signal reception. The manual has a section "Appropriate Signal Reception Location".
3. Wait for automatic reception. The "Auto Time Calibration Signal Receive" function adjusts the time by itself.
4. If needed, start manual reception with "Manual Time Calibration Signal Receive".
5. Check the result with "Checking the Last Time Adjustment Result".
6. If there is no signal, set the time manually as described in "Using Watch Operations to Adjust the Time Setting".
7. The date format and the day-of-week language are changed in "Other Settings".

Radio-controlled time calibration

The watch receives a time calibration signal from ground-based transmitters. The manual describes the reception ranges in the section "Time Signal Reception Ranges". Automatic reception can be turned on and off. There is also an indicator for the reception level, called "Receive Level Indicator". The "City Table" shows which city is linked to which signal. The manual also contains precautions for signal reception.

World Time

The World Time function shows the time in another city from the City Table. The manual describes how to check World Time and how to select a city. It is possible to swap the Home Time and the World Time. This is convenient when travelling to another time zone.

Alarm and hourly time signal

Module 3495 has an alarm and an hourly time signal. The manual describes the alarm setup in the section "Configuring Alarm Settings". The hourly time signal is turned on separately through "Configuring the Hourly Time Signal Setting". There is also a section on turning off the alarm or the hourly time signal.

Stopwatch

The Stopwatch measures elapsed time. The manual describes three types of measurement:

• elapsed time measurement;
• split time measurement;
• timing the first and second place finishers.

Timer

The Timer counts down a preset time. The manual describes its setup in "Setting the Time" and its use in "Using the Timer".

Display illumination

The display can be read in the dark. The section "Viewing the Face in the Dark" describes how to turn on the illumination.

Charging and power saving

The watch runs on a rechargeable battery. The manual has a "Charging" section for charging and a "Battery" section with instructions. The power saving function is configured in "Configuring Power Saving Function Settings". Replacing the battery requires special tools. Casio recommends that it be done by the retailer or an authorised service centre.

Other settings

In the "Other Settings" section the manual describes:

• changing the date display format;
• selecting the language for the day of the week;
• turning on the button operation tone.

Water resistance and care

The water resistance rating is marked on the dial or on the case back. Watches marked 20BAR are suitable for swimming, windsurfing and skin diving. The watch is not intended for scuba diving. Do not operate the buttons while the watch is under water or wet. After sea water, rinse it with fresh water. The gaskets should be replaced every two or three years.

Do not leave the watch at very high or very low temperatures. The display becomes hard to read below 0 °C and above +40 °C. Avoid contact with thinners, petrol, oils and cosmetics. They can damage the case and the band. The band should not be fastened too tightly. If it cracks or loosens, stop using it and have it checked.
