Casio module 3518: user manual and setup (WS-1500H)

The module number is printed on the case back of the watch, in a small rectangle among the other markings. If it says 3518, the settings below apply to your watch.

Which watches use module 3518

Module 3518 is digital. The display shows hours, minutes, seconds, month, day and day of the week. The screen also has two additional indicators: one for the moon phase and one for the fishing level. The watch has a stopwatch, a countdown timer, an alarm and dual time. At Classic, the models with this module are:

Buttons and modes

The manual labels the four buttons with the letters A, B, C and D. Button C changes the mode. Button B turns on the illumination in every mode, except when a setting screen is on the display.

There are six modes:

• Timekeeping Mode
• Fishing/Moon Mode
• Stopwatch Mode
• Timer Mode
• Alarm Mode
• Dual Time Mode

Each press of C moves the watch to the next mode. After the last mode it returns to the Timekeeping Mode.

How to set the time and date

Before you use the other functions, Casio recommends setting the correct time, date and data for the place where you wear the watch.

1. In the Timekeeping Mode, hold down A until the seconds start to flash. This is the setting screen.
2. Use C to move the flashing in this order: seconds, DST, hour, minutes, day, month, year.
3. While the seconds are flashing, press D to reset them to 00.
4. While DST is flashing, press D to switch between daylight saving time (On) and standard time (OF).
5. For the hour, minutes, day, month and year, use B to decrease and D to increase.
6. Press A twice to exit. The first press shows the UTC differential screen, the second closes the setting.

The day of the week is shown automatically according to the set date. Daylight saving time moves the time one hour ahead of standard time. Not all countries and regions use daylight saving time. When daylight saving time is on, the DST indicator is shown in the Timekeeping, Fishing/Moon and Alarm Modes.

12-hour or 24-hour format

In the Timekeeping Mode, press D to switch between 12-hour and 24-hour format. In 12-hour format, a P indicator is shown next to the hour digits from noon to 23:59. In 24-hour format, the time runs from 0:00 to 23:59 without an indicator. The selected format applies to all modes. The P indicator is not shown for the time in the Timer and Dual Time Modes.

Location data (Home Site)

The moon phase and the fishing level are calculated from the UTC differential and the longitude. If these data are not set correctly, the readings will not be accurate. The factory setting is Tokyo: UTC +9.0 and east longitude 140 degrees. The same values return after a battery replacement. The list of values for cities around the world is at the end of the manual.

1. In the Timekeeping Mode, hold down A until the seconds start to flash.
2. Press A again to display the UTC differential screen.
3. Use C to move the flashing in this order: UTC differential, longitude value, east/west.
4. The UTC differential is changed with B (–) and D (+) in a range from –12.0 to +14.0 in 0.5-hour steps.
5. The longitude is changed with B and D from 0 to 180 degrees in 1-degree steps.
6. Use D to switch between east (E) and west (W) longitude.
7. Press A to exit the setting.

When daylight saving time is on, the UTC differential can range from –11.0 to +15.0 in 0.5-hour steps.

Fishing/Moon Mode

You enter this mode with button C. The screen shows the fishing level for a specific date and time, in five levels. The level is calculated according to the transit and phase of the Moon. The mode also shows the moon data for a selected date: moon age and moon phase. The manual has separate steps for viewing the current level and for setting a date. If the readings seem wrong, check the time, date and Home Site data in the Timekeeping Mode. The DST indicator is shown here only on the fishing level screen.

Casio warns that the fishing level and the moon phase are calculated values for reference only. When fishing, take the usual precautions for your safety and for the safety of the people around you.

Stopwatch, timer, alarm and dual time

The manual also describes the other four modes. The Stopwatch measures elapsed times. The Countdown Timer has a setting screen and a countdown screen. The Alarm Mode has three alarms and an hourly time signal. Alarm 1 has a selectable operation type. Alarms 2 and 3 and the hourly time signal can be turned on and off. The alarm can be tested. In the Dual Time Mode you set a second time. The detailed steps for each mode are in the corresponding sections of the PDF document.

Illumination and button sound

Button B illuminates the display in every mode, except on a setting screen. The illumination duration can be set. The button operation tone can be turned on and off. The steps are in the Illumination and Reference sections of the manual.
