Casio module 4393: user manual and setup (MTP-B145D)

The module number is printed on the case back of the watch. Turn the watch over and look for a four-digit number next to the model name. If it says 4393, this manual applies to your watch. The module describes the movement and the setting procedure, regardless of the case and dial colour.

Which watches use module 4393

Module 4393 is an analog movement with hands and a date display. The Casio manual places it in the group of analog watches with a crown that has two pulled-out positions. There is no digital display and there are no mode buttons. All settings are made with the crown. At Classic this module is found in the following models from the Casio Collection series:

Crown positions

The crown on module 4393 has three positions. In the normal position it is pushed in against the case and the watch runs. The first click is used to set the date. The second click stops the second hand and is used to set the time. You can feel the difference between the two positions when pulling the crown out. If you are not sure which position the crown is in, turn it slightly. At the first click the date moves, at the second click the hands move.

How to set the time and date

Setting the time according to the Casio manual:

1. Wait for the second hand to reach the 12 o'clock position.
2. Pull the crown out to the second click. The second hand stops.
3. Turn the crown and set the hour and minute hands.
4. Move the minute hand four or five minutes past the desired time.
5. Move the hands back to the exact minute.
6. Push the crown back in to the normal position exactly on a time signal. The watch starts running again.

Going four or five minutes ahead and then back is a Casio recommendation. This way the minute hand sits exactly on the markers, without play in the movement.

Setting the date:

1. Pull the crown out to the first click.
2. Turn the crown until the desired date appears in the window.
3. Push the crown back in to the normal position.

Casio warns not to set the date between 8:00 PM and 2:00 AM. If you do, the date may not change on the following day. Change the time first if the hands show this interval, and then set the date.

Elapsed time bezel

Some of the analog models in the manual have a rotating bezel with markers from 10 to 50. If your watch has such a bezel, use it to measure elapsed time. Turn the bezel so that its marker lines up with the minute hand. After some time, read the bezel marker that the minute hand points to. The number shows the elapsed minutes. If your model has no rotating bezel, this section does not apply to it.

Screw-lock crown

Some water-resistant models have a crown that screws into the case. On such a watch, first unscrew the crown in the direction shown in the manual, and only then pull it out. Do not pull the crown by force if it has not been unscrewed yet. While the crown is unscrewed, the watch is not water-resistant. After every setting, screw the crown fully back into the case. If the crown on your model pulls out directly, without unscrewing, skip this step.

Useful notes for setting

Stop the second hand at 12 o'clock before pulling out the crown. This way, when you return it to the normal position, the watch starts in sync with an exact time signal. Use a phone or radio as the source of the exact time. Pull the crown out with a fingernail or fingertips, without twisting. After setting, check that the crown is pushed in fully so the watch does not remain stopped. The illustrations in the manual may differ slightly from your watch, but the setting principle is the same.
