Casio module 5118: user manual and setup (EF-539D)

The module number is engraved on the case back of every Casio. It is a four-digit number, separate from the model number, usually inside a small rectangle. If it says 5118, the settings described below apply to your watch.

Which watches have module 5118

Module 5118 is an analog movement with a chronograph. The watch has three central hands: hour hand, minute hand and stopwatch second hand. There are also three small dials: current time seconds, stopwatch hours and stopwatch minutes. The day is shown in a separate window. At Classic, the model with this module is:

Buttons and crown

The watch has two buttons and a crown. Button A starts and stops the stopwatch. Button B resets it and is used for hand alignment. The crown has three positions. In the normal position the watch runs. The first click is for setting the day. The second click is for setting the time.

Some water-resistant models have a screw-lock crown. On these, first unscrew the crown in the direction shown in the illustration before pulling it out. Do not pull hard. While the crown is unscrewed, the watch is not water resistant. After each setting, screw it in fully.

How to set the time and date

Setting the time:

1. Pull the crown out to the second click. The second hand stops.
2. Rotate the crown to set the hands. Move the minute hand four or five minutes past the desired time, then move it back to the exact position.
3. Push the crown back to the normal position. The watch starts running again.

Setting the day:

1. Pull the crown out to the first click.
2. Rotate the crown until the correct day appears.
3. Push the crown back to the normal position.

Do not set the day between 9:00 PM and 1:00 AM. In this interval the display may not change correctly on the next day.

Stopwatch

The stopwatch measures elapsed time up to 11 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds. It counts in one-second steps. Seconds are shown by the large central hand, and hours and minutes in the small dials.

1. Press A to start the measurement.
2. Press A to stop. Pressing A again resumes the measurement.
3. Press B to reset the stopwatch.

Do not operate the stopwatch while the crown is pulled out to the first or second click. When pressing a button, you may rotate the crown and change the time or day.

Aligning the stopwatch hands

During use, the home positions of the stopwatch minute hand and second hand may shift. After a reset they should point to 12 o'clock. Check and correct them as follows:

1. Press B to reset the stopwatch, and check whether the minute hand and second hand point to 12 o'clock.
2. Pull the crown out to the second click.
3. Press A repeatedly until the stopwatch second hand is at 12 o'clock.
4. If the minute hand is aligned, go to the next step. If the stopwatch hour hand and minute hand are also out of position, press B and the minute hand will jump to 0.
5. Push the crown back to the normal position.

Pulling out the crown also stops the current time second hand. After alignment, set the time again.

Elapsed time bezel

On models with a rotary elapsed time bezel, rotate the bezel so that its marker lines up with the minute hand. After some time, read the bezel graduation the minute hand points to. This is the elapsed time.

Battery and accuracy

Accuracy at normal temperature is ± 20 seconds per month. The watch runs on one silver oxide battery type SR927W. It lasts about 2 years with about 60 minutes of stopwatch operation per day. Battery replacement is done by the dealer or by an authorized Casio service center. Use only the specified battery type. Another type may cause damage.

Care of the case and band

A dirty or rusty case can stain your sleeve, irritate the skin and affect the operation of the watch. Clean the case and band with a soft absorbent cloth to remove sweat, water and dirt. After contact with sea water, rust appears easily if the watch is not cleaned.

• Metal band: clean it with a soft toothbrush and a weak solution of water and neutral detergent. Keep the case away from the solution. After sweat or water, dry it and leave it in a well-ventilated place.
• Leather band: clean it with a dry cloth. Keep it away from direct sunlight. Do not store it wet next to other items, because it absorbs color from them.
• Polymer parts: long exposure to sunlight, dirt, sweat and high temperatures cause color change. Wash off dirt with water and dry.
• A badly cracked or worn band is replaced with a new one by the dealer or by an authorized Casio service center.

People with sensitive skin may experience irritation when wearing a watch. In case of a rash, remove the watch and consult a specialist.
