Casio module 5208: user manual and setup (AQ-S810W)

The module number is printed on the case back of every Casio, separately from the model number. Turn the watch over and look for the four-digit number next to the other markings. If it says 5208, the settings below apply to your watch.

Which watches use module 5208

Module 5208 is a combination watch with hands and a digital display. The analog time is synchronized with the digital time and is corrected automatically with every change. The power source is solar: the solar cell charges a built-in rechargeable battery. At Classic the module is found in the following model:

Buttons and modes

The buttons are marked with the letters A, B, C and D. C cycles through the modes: Timekeeping Mode, World Time, Alarm Mode, Countdown Timer and Stopwatch. In every mode, except when a setting screen is open, B turns on the illumination. In Timekeeping Mode each press of D changes the digital display: month and day, day of the week, city code. The seconds stay visible on each of these screens. The display also has a battery level indicator.

How to set the time and date

First select the Home City code. The times in World Time are calculated from the settings in Timekeeping Mode. If the Home City is wrong, the World Time will also be wrong.

1. In Timekeeping Mode hold down A for about two seconds until "ADJ" appears on the display. The Home City code starts to flash.
2. Use C to move the flashing through the settings in this order: city code, DST, seconds, hour, minutes, 12/24-hour format, year, month, day, illumination duration, button tone, day of the week language.
3. City code: D moves east, B moves west. The full list is in the city code table at the end of the manual.
4. DST: use D to switch between Daylight Saving Time (ON) and standard time (OFF).
5. Seconds: press D to reset them to 00.
6. Hour, minutes, year, month and day: D increases (+), B decreases (–).
7. Time format: use D to switch between 12H and 24H. The selected format applies in all modes.
8. Press A to exit the setting screen.

The day of the week is shown automatically according to the set date. In 12-hour format the P indicator stands to the left of the hour for times from noon to 11:59 pm. Before noon there is no indicator. In 24-hour format the time runs from 0:00 to 23:59 without an indicator.

Daylight Saving Time (DST)

Daylight Saving Time moves the time one hour ahead of standard time. Not all countries and regions use it. To change it: in Timekeeping Mode hold down A for about two seconds until "ADJ" appears. Press C once to reach the DST screen. Use D to select ON or OFF and press A to exit. When Daylight Saving Time is on, the DST indicator is shown on the display.

The hands and the digital time

The hands follow the digital time. They move on their own when the digital time, the Home City code or the DST setting changes. If the hands do not match the display, use the procedure "To adjust home positions" on page E-42 of the manual. When you need to correct both times, set the digital time first. Depending on the distance the hands have to travel, synchronization may take some time.

World Time

This mode digitally shows the current time in 48 cities in 31 time zones. After entering with C, the code of the selected city is shown for about two seconds, then the time in that city. If the time for a city is wrong, check the Home City settings. The DST/standard time setting applies only to the city currently displayed. The manual also describes how to change the city, how to switch Daylight Saving Time for it and how to swap the Home City and the World Time city.

Illumination

Press B to illuminate the display. It works in every mode, except when a setting screen is open. The duration is set in Timekeeping Mode from the setting screen. LT1 is about 1.5 seconds, LT3 is about 3 seconds. Use D to switch between the two.

Button tone and language

From the same setting screen, use D to turn the button operation tone on or off. The day of the week can be shown in six languages: ENG English, POR Portuguese, ESP Spanish, FRA French, DEU German, ITA Italian. The language is changed with D (+) and B (–).

Solar power and battery

The solar cell converts light into electricity, which is stored in a rechargeable battery. In light the battery charges, in the dark it discharges. The watch also works without light, but a long stay in the dark drains the battery. When you are not wearing the watch, turn the face toward a source of strong light. Keep it outside your sleeve: a partly covered face charges much less. The manual lists four charge levels. At level 1 all functions work. At the lower levels some or all functions stop, and the exact level depends on the model. If the battery runs down completely, the settings must be entered again after charging. A blank display means the power saving function has turned it off. Checking the battery level and recovering from this state are described in the "Power Supply" section on pages E-33 and E-46.

Alarm, timer and stopwatch

The manual contains separate sections for Alarm Mode, Countdown Timer and Stopwatch. They describe setting the alarm time, turning it on and off, and the Hourly Time Signal.
