Casio module 5344: user manual and setup (EFR-575C, EFR-575CL, EFR-575D)

The module number is engraved on the case back, usually in a small rectangle next to the other markings. If it says 5344, this manual applies to your watch. The Casio manual covers modules 5344 and 5384 together, so the hands and discs may differ slightly from the illustrations.

Which watches use module 5344

Casio EFR-575C-8AEF

Module 5344 is an analog watch with hands and a crown. Besides the hour, minute and second hands, it has a 24-hour hand, a date indicator and two small stopwatch dials. On some models, part of the readings is shown with rotating discs instead of hands. At Classic, the module is found in the following models from the Edifice series:

Buttons and crown

The watch has two buttons and a crown. Button A starts and stops the stopwatch. Button B takes a split time and resets the stopwatch. The crown has two pulled-out positions. At the first click (Click 1) you change the date. At the second click (Click 2) you set the time and correct the home positions of the stopwatch hands.

On models water resistant to 100 and 200 meters, the crown is a screw-lock crown. Before using it, turn it towards you to unscrew it, then pull it out without force. While the crown is unscrewed, the watch is not water resistant. After every adjustment, screw it back in fully.

How to set the time and date

  1. Wait until the second hand reaches 12 o'clock.
  2. Pull the crown out to the second click (Click 2). The watch stops keeping time while the crown is pulled out.
  3. Turn the crown to set the time. Check whether the time is morning or afternoon by watching the 24-hour hand.
  4. Move the minute hand four or five minutes past the desired time, then move it back to the exact minute.
  5. Push the crown back in.
  6. For the date, pull the crown out to the first click (Click 1) and turn it to the required day.
  7. Push the crown back in.

The date indicator works with a 31-day month. In shorter months, the date is corrected manually. Do not change the date between 9:00 PM and 1:00 AM. During this interval the mechanism advances the date, and the change may not be performed correctly at midnight.

Stopwatch

The stopwatch measures elapsed time in steps of 1 second up to 59 minutes and 59 seconds. After 60 minutes, measurement stops automatically. Do not operate the stopwatch while the crown is pulled out.

Elapsed time measurement:

  • A – start
  • A – stop
  • A – resume
  • A – stop
  • B – reset

Split time:

  • A – start
  • B – split time is taken, the hands stop
  • B – split release, the hands catch up with the actual time
  • A – stop
  • B – reset

Two finishes, for example with two runners:

  • A – start
  • B – the first runner finishes, their time is displayed
  • A – the second runner finishes
  • B – split release, the time of the second runner is displayed
  • B – reset

Resetting the stopwatch hands

If the stopwatch hands do not return to 12 o'clock after a reset, perform the following procedure.

  1. Pull the crown out to the second click (Click 2).
  2. Button B moves the stopwatch second hand clockwise. Button A moves it counterclockwise.
  3. Holding down a button moves the hand at high speed until you release it.
  4. The stopwatch minute hand is synchronized with the second hand and moves together with it.
  5. When both hands are at 12 o'clock, push the crown back in.

While the crown is pulled out, the watch does not keep time. After the procedure, set the current time again.

Rotating bezel

If your model has a rotating bezel, align the ▼ mark with the minute hand. After that, the bezel shows how much time has passed since the moment of alignment.

Battery and accuracy

The watch runs on a silver oxide battery type SR920SW. Its life is about 2 years with 60 minutes of stopwatch operation per day. The accuracy is ±20 seconds per month on average.
