Casio module 5474: user manual and setup (MTP-1375PD)

The module number is printed on the case back of every Casio watch. It is a four-digit number, usually in a small rectangle next to the other markings on the back cover. If it says 5474, this guide is for your watch. The official Casio document covers modules 5458 and 5474 together. Both modules are operated the same way and differ only in battery type. According to a note in the manual, the illustrations may differ slightly from the specific model.

Which watches use module 5474

Casio MTP-1375PD-3AVEF

Module 5474 is an analog movement with hour, minute and second hands. The dial shows the date and the day of the week. All settings are made with the crown only. The watch has no buttons and no digital display. At Classic this module is found in the following models:

The crown and its positions

The crown has three positions. In the normal position it is pushed in against the case and the watch runs. The first click outward is called Click 1 and is used for the date and the day of the week. The second click is called Click 2 and is used for the hour and minutes. The manual describes the direction of rotation as "toward you" and "away from you". Toward you means the top of the crown moves toward your wrist. Away from you is the opposite direction. Before setting, it is good to know which position does what. This way you will not shift the time when you only want to change the date.

How to set the time and date

Setting the hour and minutes:

  1. Wait until the second hand reaches 12 o'clock.
  2. Pull the crown out to the second click (Click 2).
  3. Rotate the crown to move the hands to the desired time.
  4. Check that you are setting the correct morning or afternoon time. The analog dial does not show the difference, but the date depends on it.
  5. Move the minute hand four or five minutes past the exact time. Then move it back to the desired minute.
  6. Push the crown back in to the normal position.

Setting the date and the day of the week:

  1. Pull the crown out to the first click (Click 1).
  2. Rotate the crown toward you to set the date.
  3. Rotate the crown away from you to set the day of the week.
  4. Push the crown back in to the normal position.

The manual gives two important notes about the date. The movement works with a 31-day month. After February and after months with 30 days, correct the date manually. Do not change the date and the day of the week between 9:00 PM and 4:00 AM. During this interval the movement prepares the changeover at midnight. If you set them then, the date and the day may not change correctly.

Screw-lock crown

Some models water resistant to 100 or 200 meters have a screw-lock crown. On these, the crown is tightened against the case and cannot be pulled out directly. Before setting, rotate it toward you until it unscrews. Then pull it out to the required click without using excessive force. While the crown is unscrewed, the watch loses its water resistance. After you finish setting, push the crown in and screw it all the way back in.

Rotating bezel

If your model has a rotating bezel, it is used to measure elapsed time. Rotate the bezel so that the ▼ mark aligns with the minute hand. From that moment the minute hand moves away from the mark. The distance between the mark and the hand on the bezel scale shows the elapsed minutes. The function is handy for parking, cooking or short tasks.

Battery and accuracy

Module 5474 runs on one silver oxide battery type SR927SW. According to the manual, it lasts about three years. Module 5458 from the same document uses a smaller SR621SW battery. The accuracy is ±20 seconds per month on average. If the watch gains or loses time within these limits, this is normal for a quartz movement.
