Casio module 5634: user manual and setup (EFS-S570D)

The module number is engraved on the case back, usually in a small rectangle next to the other markings. It is not the same as the model name. If the case back reads 5634, this manual applies to your watch.

Which watches use module 5634

Module 5634 is an analog watch with solar charging. It has hour, minute and second hands, a day indicator and a stopwatch with separate hands. It is operated with a crown and two buttons, A and B.

Buttons, crown and hands

According to the manual, the watch has a crown and two buttons. Button A starts and stops the stopwatch. Button B takes a split time and resets the stopwatch.

The crown has two pulled-out positions. Click 1 is used to set the day. Click 2 is used to set the time and for the service procedures.

Besides the main hands, there is a stopwatch minute hand, which also shows the battery level. There is also a stopwatch second hand. The day indicator is a separate window on the dial.

Before first use

On some models a factory spacer is placed around the crown. Remove it before using the watch. Then set the time by following the steps described below.

Some water-resistant models rated 10 or 20 BAR have a screw-lock crown. Turn it towards you to unscrew it, then pull it out. Do not use force. While the crown is unscrewed, the watch loses its water resistance. After each setting, screw it in fully.

If the model has a rotating bezel, align its marker with the minute hand. This way you can read how much time has passed since the alignment.

How to set the time and date

Setting the time:

1. Wait for the second hand to reach 12 o'clock and pull the crown out to click 2.
2. Turn the crown to set the time.
3. Push the crown back in at an accurate time signal. The watch starts running again.

Take care to set the correct a.m. or p.m. time. When setting, move the minute hand four or five minutes past the desired time and then move it back to the exact position.

Setting the day:

1. Pull the crown out to click 1.
2. Turn the crown away from you to set the day.
3. Push the crown back in.

The day indicator works with a 31-day month. For shorter months, adjust it manually. Do not change the day between 9:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. Otherwise the indicator may not advance correctly at midnight.

Solar charging

The whole dial is a solar panel that charges the built-in rechargeable battery. Keep the watch in the light as often as possible. When you are not wearing it, leave it in a bright place. For stable operation, at least half a day of light per month is needed.

When wearing the watch, make sure your sleeve does not cover the dial. Even partial covering reduces charging significantly.

Approximate charging times for daily use:

• Outdoor sunlight (50,000 lux): 8 minutes.
• Sunlight through a window (10,000 lux): 30 minutes.
• Cloudy day through a window (5,000 lux): 48 minutes.
• Indoor fluorescent lighting (500 lux): 8 hours.

From a fully discharged battery, the watch starts running after about 4 hours in outdoor sunlight. A full charge in sunlight takes about 14 hours. Through a window, 11 hours are needed to start and 66 hours for a full charge. In cloudy weather through a window, the times are 14 and 114 hours. Under fluorescent lighting, the watch starts running after about 195 hours. Actual times depend on the conditions.

The case can become very hot during charging. Avoid charging on the dashboard of a car parked in the sun, near heat lamps or in direct sunlight for a long time.

Battery indicator

The stopwatch minute hand normally shows the approximate remaining operating time. At H, the charge lasts at least five months. At M, the charge lasts from two days to five months. At L, the battery will last no more than two days.

While the stopwatch is running, the battery level is not shown. After the stopwatch is reset, the hand returns to the battery indication when you press B or after 60 seconds without any operation.

When the charge is low, the second hand starts jumping every two seconds. This is a signal to expose the watch to light.

Stopwatch

The stopwatch measures elapsed time in 1-second steps up to 59 minutes and 59 seconds. Measurement stops automatically after 60 minutes. Do not operate the stopwatch while the crown is pulled out.

• Elapsed time: A start, A stop, A resume, A stop, B reset.
• Split time: A start, B split, B split release, A stop, B reset.
• Two finishes: A start, B split for the first runner, A stop for the second, B shows the time of the second, B reset.

Correcting the stopwatch hands

If the stopwatch hands do not return to 12 o'clock or to L after a reset, perform the following procedure.

1. When the second hand is at 12 o'clock, pull the crown out to click 2.
2. Hold A for at least two seconds. The stopwatch minute hand rotates and enters the setting mode. If it is not at L, align it with B. Holding B moves the hand quickly.
3. Press A. The stopwatch second hand makes a full rotation. If it is not at 12 o'clock, align it with B.
4. When the hands are in place, push the crown back in.

While the crown is pulled out, the watch does not keep time. After the procedure, set the correct time again.

Unusual hand movement

If the hands move unusually or the second hand does not move in one-second steps even at full charge, perform a system reset.

1. Pull the crown out to click 2.
2. Hold A and B together for at least two seconds.
3. Push the crown back in. The second hand starts running.
4. If needed, set the time and day and align the stopwatch hands.
