Casio module 5704: user manual and setup (MTP-1302)

The module number is engraved on the case back of the watch, among the other markings. It is a four-digit number and is separate from the model name. If the back of your Casio says 5704, the settings below apply to it.

Which watches have module 5704

Casio MTP-1302PGC-5AVEF

Module 5704 is an analog battery-powered movement. The dial has an hour, minute and second hand. There is also a date window and an indicator hand for the day of the week. All settings are made with the crown only, without additional buttons. In Classic this module is found in the following model:

The crown and its positions

The crown has two pulled-out positions. The first click (Click 1) is used for the date and the day of the week. The second click (Click 2) is used for the time. When it is pushed all the way in, the watch runs normally.

Some water-resistant models marked 10BAR or 20BAR have a screw-lock crown. Before setting, unscrew it by turning it towards you. Then pull it out without force. While the crown is unscrewed, the watch loses its water resistance. After setting, screw it back in all the way.

How to set the time and date

Setting the time:

  1. Wait for the second hand to reach 12 o'clock and pull the crown out to the second click (Click 2).
  2. Turn the crown to set the time. Make sure you set the correct morning or afternoon time.
  3. Move the minute hand four to five minutes past the desired position and then bring it back to the exact minute.
  4. Push the crown back in on a time signal. The watch starts running again.

Setting the date:

  1. Pull the crown out to the first click (Click 1).
  2. Turn the crown towards you until the required date appears in the window.
  3. Push the crown back in.

The date indicator works with a 31-day month. After a shorter month the date must be corrected manually. Do not change the date between 9:00 PM and 4:00 AM. Otherwise it may not change correctly at midnight.

Setting the day of the week:

  1. Pull the crown out to the first click (Click 1).
  2. Turn the crown away from you. The indicator hand moves through the days.
  3. Stop when the hand points to the required day, for example THU for Thursday.
  4. Push the crown back in.

The same restriction applies here: do not change the day between 9:00 PM and 4:00 AM.

Rotating bezel

If your model has a rotating bezel, it is used to measure elapsed time. Turn the bezel so that the ▼ mark lines up with the minute hand. After that, the position of the minute hand against the scale shows how much time has passed.

Battery and low battery indicator

The module runs on an SR920SW battery. According to Casio it lasts about three years. The accuracy is ±20 seconds per month at normal temperature.

When the battery is near its end, the second hand starts jumping in two-second steps. This is a signal that the battery should be replaced as soon as possible. Replacement requires special tools. Casio recommends that it be done by the retailer or by an authorized Casio service center. During replacement the technician also checks the water resistance of the watch.

Water resistance

The marking is on the case back or on the dial. If there is no WATER RESIST or WATER RESISTANT marking, the watch is not protected even from sweat. If the marking is present, the following levels apply:

  • WATER RESIST without BAR – hand washing and rain.
  • 5BAR – additionally swimming and working with water.
  • 10BAR and 20BAR – additionally windsurfing and skin diving without a tank.

The watch is not intended for scuba diving with a tank. Do not operate the crown while the watch is wet or under water. Avoid baths, saunas and pools with hot water. Do not wear it while washing with soap or doing housework with detergents. After sea water, rinse the watch with clean water. Leather bands must not get wet. The gaskets are replaced every two to three years to maintain water resistance. If the glass fogs briefly during a sudden change in temperature, this is normal. If the fogging does not go away, take the watch to a service center.

Magnetism, temperature and care

The hands are driven by a motor with magnetic force. A strong magnetic field from speakers, a phone or a magnetic necklace can slow down, speed up or stop the movement. Do not leave the watch on a car dashboard, next to a heater or in severe cold. Keep it away from solvents, gasoline, oils, cosmetics and adhesives, which damage the case and the band. For long storage, dry it and keep it in a dry, cool place. The band must not be too tight; a finger should fit between it and the wrist. If there are cracks, rust or loosening of the band, stop wearing the watch and take it in for inspection.
