Casio module 3198: user manual and setup (AE-1000W)

The module number is printed on the back cover of the watch, next to the other markings. It is a four-digit number and differs from the model number. If it says 3198, this manual applies to your watch. According to the Casio manual, modules 3198 and 3299 are operated in the same way.

Which watches have module 3198

Module 3198 is a digital module with LED illumination. It has five modes: Timekeeping, World Time, Alarm, Countdown Timer and Stopwatch. The watch keeps the time in four cities at once. At Classic the module is found in the following model:

Buttons and modes

The manual labels the buttons with the letters A, B, C and D. Button C moves from one mode to the next. The modes cycle in this order: Timekeeping, World Time, Alarm, Countdown Timer, Stopwatch. Button B turns on the illumination in every mode, except when a setting screen is displayed. Button A opens and closes the setting screens. Buttons D and B change the values during setting.

The screen in Timekeeping Mode

The Multi Time function gives quick access to the time and date in four cities. They are numbered T-1 to T-4. T-1 is the time in your Home City. T-2, T-3 and T-4 are local times for other cities. The local times are synchronized with the Home Time T-1. Each press of D switches between the four screens. The digital scale in the upper part of the screen shows the Home City time. The screen also shows a map, seconds, day of the week, month and day, hour and minutes. While the T-1 screen is displayed, pressing A shows the city code and the T-1 indicator for about one second.

How to set the time and date

The time and date are changed only for the Home City T-1. For the local times T-2, T-3 and T-4, only the city code and daylight saving time are changed.

1. Use button D to display the Home Time screen T-1.
2. Hold down A until the seconds start to flash. This is the setting screen.
3. Use button C to move the flashing through the settings in this order: seconds, DST, city code, hour, minutes, 12/24-hour format, year, month, day, illumination duration.
4. When the seconds are flashing, press D to reset them.
5. For DST, press D to switch between daylight saving time and standard time.
6. For the city code, use D for east and B for west.
7. For hour, minutes, year, month and day, use D for plus and B for minus.
8. For the format, press D to switch between 12 and 24 hours.
9. For the illumination, press D to select 1.5 or 3 seconds.
10. Press A to exit the setting screen.

The day of the week is shown automatically according to the set date. In 12-hour format, the PM indicator appears to the left of the hour between noon and 23:59. In 24-hour format, the time runs from 0:00 to 23:59 without an indicator. The selected format applies in all modes.

Daylight saving time (DST)

Daylight saving time moves the time one hour ahead of standard time. Not all countries and regions use it. To switch, display T-1 with D and hold down A until the seconds flash. Press C to reach the DST screen, then D to change and A to exit. When daylight saving time is on, the DST indicator is shown on the screen.

Local times and changing the Home City

To change the city of a local time, display the corresponding screen T-2, T-3 or T-4. Hold down A for about two seconds until the city code flashes. Select a code with D for east and B for west. Press C for the DST screen and D to switch. Finally, press A. The city codes are in the table at the end of the manual.

Any local time can become the Home Time. In Timekeeping Mode, use D to display the local time you want. Then press A and B at the same time.

World Time

The mode shows the current time in 48 cities in 31 time zones. It is entered with button C. D scrolls eastward through the city codes. The screen shows the time and date in the zone of the selected city. If the time for a city is wrong, check the settings in Timekeeping Mode. For daylight saving time, display the city with D and hold down A for about one second. The setting applies only to the displayed city. Daylight saving time cannot be turned on for UTC. To make the displayed city the Home City, press A and B at the same time.

Alarms and Hourly Time Signal

The watch has five alarms. Each can be a daily alarm or a one-time alarm. The daily alarm sounds every day at the set time. The one-time alarm sounds once and then turns off automatically. There is also an Hourly Time Signal, which beeps twice on every full hour. All operations are done in Alarm Mode, which is entered with button C. The alarms work on the Home Time T-1. Countdown Timer and Stopwatch

The module has a Countdown Timer Mode and a Stopwatch Mode. They are entered with button C. The steps for setting the timer and for measuring with the stopwatch are described in the PDF manual below.

Illumination

An LED lights the screen for reading in the dark. Press B in any mode, except on a setting screen. The illumination stays on for about 1.5 or 3 seconds, according to the selected setting. It is hard to see in direct sunlight. The illumination turns off automatically when an alarm sounds. Frequent use drains the battery.
