Casio module 3229: user manual and setup (DWE-5600HG, GM-5600SCM)

The module number is engraved on the case back of every Casio. It is a four-digit number, usually in a small rectangular frame next to the other markings. If it says 3229, the instructions below apply to your watch. Casio issues one manual for modules 3229 and 3421, so both numbers appear in the document.

Which watches have module 3229

Module 3229 is digital. The time, date and all functions are shown as digits on the display. Depending on the model, the digits are dark on a light background or light on a dark background. At Classic the module is found in the following G-Shock models:

• DWE-5600HG-1ER – Casio G-Shock DWE-5600HG-1ER
• GM-5600SCM-1ER – Casio G-Shock GM-5600SCM-1ER

Buttons and modes

The watch has four buttons, marked in the manual with the letters A, B, C and D. Button C changes the modes in the following order: Timekeeping Mode, Alarm Mode, Countdown Timer Mode and Stopwatch Mode. After the Stopwatch, C returns to the Timekeeping Mode. After finishing an operation in any mode, pressing C returns to the Timekeeping Mode. Button D turns on the display illumination in any mode. It goes out about two seconds after you release D.

How to set the time and date

1. In the Timekeeping Mode, press A. The seconds start to flash because they are selected.
2. Use C to change the selected setting in this order: seconds, hour, minutes, day, month, year.
3. While the seconds are flashing, press B to reset them to "00". If the value is between 30 and 59, the minutes increase by one. If the value is between 00 and 29, the minutes stay the same.
4. For any other flashing setting, B increases it. Holding down B changes the number quickly.
5. While any setting is flashing, press D to switch between 12-hour and 24-hour format.
6. Finally, press A to return to the Timekeeping Mode.

The day of the week is set automatically according to the date. The date can be set in the range from January 1, 2000 to December 31, 2099. If you do not press a button for a few minutes during setting, the flashing stops. The watch returns to the Timekeeping Mode on its own.

Alarm and Hourly Time Signal

The alarm is set with an hour, minutes, month and day. When it is on, it sounds for 20 seconds at the set time. The Hourly Time Signal makes a short sound every hour on the hour. The type of alarm depends on what you enter:

• Daily alarm: set only the hour and minutes. Leave "–" for the month and "– –" for the day. It sounds every day.
• Date alarm: set the month, day, hour and minutes. It sounds only on that date at the set time.
• One-month alarm: set the month, hour and minutes, and leave "– –" for the day. It sounds every day during that month.
• Monthly alarm: set the day, hour and minutes, and leave "–" for the month. It sounds every month on that day.

1. In the Alarm Mode, hold down A until the hour digits flash. The alarm turns on automatically.
2. Use C to change the selection in this order: hour, minutes, month, day.
3. Use B to increase the selected setting. Holding down B changes the number quickly.
4. Press A to return to the Alarm Mode.

The alarm format follows the selected time format. In 12-hour format, check whether you have set a.m. or p.m. A sounding alarm is stopped by pressing any button. In the Alarm Mode, B switches the status in this order: both off, alarm only, Hourly Time Signal only, both on. The display has separate indicators for the alarm on and for the Hourly Time Signal on. If you do not press a button for a few minutes during setting, the watch returns to the Alarm Mode on its own.

Countdown Timer

The timer can be set from 1 second to 24 hours. When the countdown reaches zero, the signal sounds for 10 seconds or until a button is pressed.

1. In the Countdown Timer Mode, press A. The hour digit flashes because it is selected.
2. Use C to change the selection in this order: hours, minutes, seconds.
3. Use B to increase the setting. Holding down B speeds up the change. For a start time of 24 hours, set 0:00'00.
4. Press A to return to the Countdown Timer Mode.

The countdown is started with B and stopped again with B. Pressing B again resumes the countdown. To return to the start time, stop the timer and press A. With auto-repeat off, the countdown stops after the signal. The value returns to the start time on its own after the signal ends.

Auto-repeat is turned on like this: in the Countdown Timer Mode, press A, then press D and finally A to return. With auto-repeat on, after each signal the countdown starts again from the start time. It is stopped with B. An auto-repeat indicator stays on the display.

Stopwatch

The Stopwatch measures elapsed time, split times and first and second place finishes. The range is 23 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds. In the Stopwatch Mode, B starts the measurement, and a second press of B stops it. Pressing B again resumes the measurement. A resets the Stopwatch. Illumination

Button D illuminates the display at any time, regardless of the flash illumination setting. The flash illumination function itself makes the display flash when the alarm, the timer or the Hourly Time Signal sounds. It is turned on and off by holding down B for about two seconds in the Timekeeping Mode. When the function is on, an indicator stays on the display in all modes. The setting does not affect the sound signals.

The illumination is electroluminescent (EL) and loses brightness after very long use. Frequent use shortens the battery life. When it lights up, a faint sound from the EL panel transistor can be heard. This is not a malfunction. In direct sunlight the illumination is hard to see. It goes out automatically when the alarm sounds.
