Casio module 3230: user manual and setup (GM-6900)

The module number is engraved on the case back of the watch, among the other markings. If it says 3230, the settings described below apply to your watch. The Casio manual is shared by modules 3230 and 3232. All illustrations in it show module 3230.

Which watches have module 3230

Module 3230 is a digital module with a liquid crystal display. Depending on the model, the digits are dark on a light background or light on a dark background. The module has four modes: Timekeeping, Alarm, Countdown Timer and Stopwatch. At Classic this module is found in the following model:

Buttons and modes

The manual labels the buttons with the letters A, C, D and E. Each of them has a clearly defined role.

• A – enters a setting screen and returns to the corresponding mode after setting.
• C – changes modes in this order: Timekeeping, Alarm, Countdown Timer, Stopwatch. After an operation in any mode, pressing C returns to Timekeeping Mode.
• D – illuminates the display in every mode. The light goes out about two seconds after the button is released.
• E – increases the selected value during setting, and starts and stops the timer and the stopwatch.

How to set the time and date

1. In Timekeeping Mode, press A. The seconds start to flash because they are selected.
2. Use button C to change the selected value in this order: seconds, hour, minutes, day, month, year.
3. While the seconds are flashing, press E to reset them to "00". If the seconds are between 30 and 59, the minutes increase by one. If they are between 00 and 29, the minutes stay unchanged.
4. While another value is flashing, press E to increase it. Holding E changes the numbers quickly.
5. To switch between 12-hour and 24-hour format, press D while any value is flashing.
6. Finally, press A to return to Timekeeping Mode.

The day of the week is set automatically according to the date. The date can be set in the range from January 1, 2000 to December 31, 2099. If you do not press a button for a few minutes while a value is flashing, the watch exits the setting screen by itself.

Illumination

The illumination is electroluminescent (EL). Pressing D lights up the display in every mode, regardless of the illumination function setting. There is also a separate auto light function. When it is on, the display lights up as soon as the alarm, the timer or the hourly time signal sounds.

To turn the function on or off, hold E for about two seconds in Timekeeping Mode. When the function is on, an indicator appears on the display and stays in all modes. This setting does not affect the sound signals.

Frequent use of the illumination shortens battery life. When the light comes on, a faint sound from a vibrating transistor can be heard, which is not a malfunction. In direct sunlight the illumination is hard to see. The illumination turns off automatically as soon as the alarm starts to sound.

Alarm and hourly time signal

The alarm is set with an hour, minutes, month and day. When it is on, it sounds for 20 seconds at the set time. When the hourly time signal is on, the watch beeps every hour on the hour.

1. In Alarm Mode, press A until the hour starts to flash. At this moment the alarm turns on automatically.
2. Use button C to change the selected value in this order: hour, minutes, month, day.
3. Press E to increase the selected value. Holding E changes the numbers quickly.
4. Press A to return to Alarm Mode.

The alarm format follows the format selected for the current time. With the 12-hour format, take care whether you are setting a morning or an afternoon hour. The type of alarm depends on what you have set:

• Daily alarm – set the hour and minutes, "–" for the month and "– –" for the day. It sounds every day.
• Date alarm – set the month, day, hour and minutes. It sounds once on the specific date.
• One-month alarm – set the month, hour and minutes, and "– –" for the day. It sounds every day during that month.
• Monthly alarm – set the day, hour and minutes, and "–" for the month. It sounds every month on that day.

A sounding alarm is stopped by pressing any button. Pressing E in Alarm Mode changes the status in this order: both on, both off, alarm only, hourly time signal only. The display has separate indicators for the alarm and for the hourly time signal.

Countdown Timer

The timer can be set from 1 second to 24 hours. When the countdown reaches zero, the alarm sounds for 10 seconds or until a button is pressed.

1. In Countdown Timer Mode, press A. The hours start to flash.
2. Use button C to change the selected value in this order: hours, minutes, seconds.
3. Press E to increase the selected value. Holding E changes the numbers quickly.
4. Press A to return to Countdown Timer Mode.

For a start value of 24 hours, set 0:00'00. The countdown starts with E and stops when E is pressed again. Pressing E again resumes the countdown. To return to the start value, stop the timer and press A until the value resets.

Auto-repeat is turned on like this: in Countdown Timer Mode, press A, then D to turn it on or off, and finally A to exit. With auto-repeat on, the alarm sounds at the end, but the countdown starts again from the start value. You can stop it with E and reset it with A.

Stopwatch

The Stopwatch Mode measures elapsed time, split times and two finishes. The range is 23 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds. The current time is shown in the upper part of the display.

• Press E to start the stopwatch.
• Press E again to stop it.
• Pressing E again resumes the measurement.
