Casio module 3284: user manual and setup (LA680WEA, LA680WEGA)

The module number is engraved on the back of the watch. It is usually a four-digit number in a small rectangle, separate from the model name. If it says 3284, this guide applies to your watch. The description follows the official Casio document for module 3284.

Which watches use module 3284

Module 3284 is digital. The time, date and day of the week are shown as digits on the display. Depending on the model, the digits are dark on a light background or light on a dark background. The module has an alarm, an hourly time signal, a stopwatch and LED illumination. At Classic it is found in the following models from the Casio Collection series:

Buttons and modes

The watch has three buttons, marked in the manual with the letters A, B and C. Button B changes the modes. Button C turns on the display illumination in every mode. Button A changes values and controls the stopwatch.

There are four modes. They cycle by pressing B in this order:

• Timekeeping Mode – shows the current time and date.
• Alarm Mode – setting the alarm and the hourly time signal.
• Stopwatch Mode – measuring elapsed time.
• Time Setting Mode – setting the time and date.

After an operation in any mode, pressing B returns the watch to the Timekeeping Mode. If you do not press a button for one or two minutes in the Alarm Mode or the Time Setting Mode, the watch returns to the time display on its own.

How to set the time and date

1. Press B until you enter the Time Setting Mode. The seconds start to flash.
2. Use button C to select the field to change in the following order: seconds, hour, minutes, day of the week, date, month.
3. While the seconds are flashing, press A to reset them to zero. If the seconds are between 30 and 59, the minutes increase by one. If they are between 00 and 29, the minutes do not change.
4. For any other selected field, press A to increase the value. For the day of the week, A moves to the next day. Holding A changes the value quickly.
5. When you are done, press B to return to the Timekeeping Mode.

If you leave a field flashing for one or two minutes without pressing a button, the flashing stops. The watch returns to the Timekeeping Mode automatically.

12-hour and 24-hour format

In the Timekeeping Mode, press A to switch between the 12-hour and 24-hour format. In the 12-hour format, the PM indicator is shown from noon to 11:59 p.m. There is no indicator for the hours from midnight to 11:59 a.m. In the 24-hour format, the time is shown from 0:00 to 23:59 with the 24H indicator.

The day of the week is shown as an abbreviation: SU Sunday, MO Monday, TU Tuesday, WE Wednesday, TH Thursday, FR Friday, SA Saturday.

Alarm and hourly time signal

When the daily alarm is turned on, it sounds for 20 seconds at the set time every day. When the hourly time signal is turned on, the watch beeps briefly every hour on the hour. All operations are done in the Alarm Mode, which you enter with B.

1. In the Alarm Mode, press C. The hour digits start to flash. This operation automatically turns on the alarm.
2. Use C to select between the hour and the minutes. The third press returns to the normal alarm screen, in which nothing flashes.
3. Use A to increase the selected value. Holding A changes the digits quickly.
4. After setting, use C to return to the Alarm Mode.

The alarm format matches the selected time format. In the 12-hour format, take care whether you set a morning or an afternoon (PM) time.

• Stopping the sounding alarm: press any button.
• Turning on and off: in the Alarm Mode, press A. The order is: both on, both off, daily alarm only, hourly time signal only.
• Testing the alarm: hold A in the Alarm Mode and the alarm will sound.

Stopwatch

The stopwatch measures elapsed time, split time and two finishes. The range is 59 minutes and 59.99 seconds with 1/100-second precision. When the limit is reached, the measurement continues from zero until you stop it. The stopwatch keeps running after you exit the mode. If you exit the mode while a split time is frozen on the display, it is cleared and elapsed time measurement resumes.

• Elapsed time: A start, A stop, A restart, A stop, C reset.
• Split time: A start, C split (SPL is shown), C split release, A stop, C reset.
• Two finishes: A start, C split when the first runner finishes, A stop when the second runner finishes, C shows the time of the second runner, C reset.

Illumination

The illumination is LED. In any mode, press C to illuminate the display.

Battery and accuracy

The watch runs on one CR1616 lithium battery. Its life is about 5 years with 1 second of illumination and 20 seconds of alarm per day. Accuracy at normal temperature is ±30 seconds per month. The calendar is automatic, with February set to 28 days.
