Casio module 3479: user manual and setup (A1000, ABL-100WE, EFB-109D)

The module number is engraved on the back of the watch, usually in a small rectangular field next to the other markings. If it says 3479, this guide is for your watch. Casio uses one module in different cases, so the steps described are the same for all models below.

Which watches have module 3479

Module 3479 is digital. The watch shows hours, minutes, seconds, date and day of the week on the display. According to the manual, the digits may be dark on a light background or light on a dark background depending on the model. The watch is operated with buttons, and the illumination is LED.

Buttons and modes

The manual labels the buttons with the letters A, B and C. Each has a clear role.

• Button B changes the modes. After an operation in any mode, pressing B returns to the Timekeeping Mode.
• Button A turns on the illumination in every mode. In the setting modes it selects which field is changed.
• Button C changes the value of the selected field and operates the Stopwatch.

There are four modes, and button B cycles through them in this order: Timekeeping Mode, Alarm Mode, Stopwatch Mode, Time Setting Mode. If you do not press a button for one to two minutes in the Alarm Mode or setting mode, the watch returns to the Timekeeping Mode by itself.

Timekeeping Mode: 12-hour or 24-hour format

In the Timekeeping Mode press C to switch between 12-hour and 24-hour format. In the 12-hour format the PM indicator is shown from noon to 23:59, and there is no indicator in the morning. In the 24-hour format the time is shown from 0:00 to 23:59 with a 24H indicator.

The day of the week is shown with abbreviations: SU Sunday, MO Monday, TU Tuesday, WE Wednesday, TH Thursday, FR Friday, SA Saturday. The watch does not account for leap years. On February 29 you have to set the date manually.

How to set the time and date

1. Press B until you enter the Time Setting Mode. The seconds start flashing because they are selected.
2. Use button A to move the selection through the fields: seconds, hour, minutes, day of the week, date and month.
3. While the seconds are flashing, press C to reset them to zero. If the seconds are between 30 and 59, the minutes increase by one. If they are between 00 and 29, the minutes do not change.
4. While another field is flashing, press C to increase the value. When the day of the week is selected, C moves to the next day. Holding C changes the values quickly.
5. When you are done, press B to return to the Timekeeping Mode.

If you do not press a button for one to two minutes during setting, the flashing stops and the watch returns to the Timekeeping Mode.

Alarm and hourly time signal

The daily alarm sounds for 20 seconds at the set time every day. The hourly time signal makes a short sound every hour on the hour. All operations are done in the Alarm Mode, which you enter with button B.

1. In the Alarm Mode press A. The hours start flashing. This step turns the alarm on automatically.
2. Use A to move the selection between hours and minutes. The third press returns to the normal Alarm Mode without flashing digits.
3. Use C to increase the selected value. Holding C changes the numbers quickly.
4. After you set the time, use A to return to the Alarm Mode.

The alarm format follows the selected time format. In the 12-hour format, check whether you are setting a morning or afternoon time. To stop the sounding alarm, press any button.

Button C in the Alarm Mode changes the status in this order: both on, both off, daily alarm only, hourly time signal only. The display has separate indicators for the alarm on and for the hourly time signal. To test the sound, hold C in the Alarm Mode.

Stopwatch

The Stopwatch measures elapsed time, split times and two finishes. The accuracy is 1/100 of a second, and the range is 59 minutes and 59.99 seconds. When the limit is reached, the count starts again from zero until you stop it. The measurement continues internally even if you change the mode. If you exit the mode while a split time is displayed, it will not be visible when you return.

• Elapsed time: C start, C stop, C resume, C stop, A reset.
• Split time: C start, A split (SPL on the display), A split release, C stop, A reset.
• Two finishes: C start, A split at the first finish, C stop at the second, A shows the time of the second, A reset.

Illumination

The display has LED illumination. Press A in any mode to light it up.

Battery and accuracy

The watch runs on one CR1616 lithium battery. According to the manual, it lasts about 3 years with 1 second of illumination and 20 seconds of alarm per day. The accuracy at normal temperature is ±30 seconds per month. The calendar is automatic with 28 days for February.
