Casio module 5226: user manual and setup (EFR-574D)

The module number is engraved on the case back of the watch. It is usually a four-digit number in a small rectangle, separate from the model number. If it says 5226, this guide is for your watch. The description is a retelling of the official Casio manual for module 5226. The illustrations in the original may differ slightly from your specific model.

Which watches use module 5226

Casio EFR-574D-2AVUEF

Module 5226 is an analog chronograph with a crown and two buttons. The watch has three main hands: the hour hand, the minute hand and the stopwatch second hand. It also has three small dials: seconds of the main time, and stopwatch hours and minutes. The dial shows the date and the day of the week. At Classic this module is found in the following model:

Buttons and crown positions

The watch has button A, button B and a crown. Button A starts and stops the stopwatch. Button B resets it. The crown has three positions:

  • Normal position – the crown is pushed in fully and the watch is running.
  • First click – setting the date and the day of the week.
  • Second click – setting the hour and minutes.

On some water-resistant models the crown is a screw-lock crown. Before pulling it out, unscrew it in the direction shown in the manual. Do not pull hard. While the crown is unscrewed, the watch is not water resistant. After each setting, screw it in fully.

How to set the time and date

Setting the time:

  1. Wait for the second hand to reach 12 o'clock.
  2. Pull the crown out to the second click. The second hand stops.
  3. Rotate the crown to set the hands.
  4. Move the minute hand four or five minutes past the desired time.
  5. Move the hands back to the exact time.
  6. Push the crown back in on a time signal. The watch starts running again.

Setting the date and the day of the week:

  1. Pull the crown out to the first click.
  2. Rotate the crown counterclockwise to set the date.
  3. Rotate the crown clockwise to set the day of the week.
  4. Push the crown back in to the normal position.

Do not set the date and day between 9:00 PM and 6:00 AM. During this interval the mechanism prepares the date change. If you set them then, the date and day may not change correctly the next day.

Stopwatch

The stopwatch measures elapsed time up to 11 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds. The measuring unit is 1 second. The only mode is elapsed time measurement.

  1. Press A to start the stopwatch.
  2. Press A to stop it.
  3. Press A again if you want to resume the measurement.
  4. Press B to reset the stopwatch.

Once started, the stopwatch runs until you press A. It continues even after reaching the limit of 11:59'59". Do not operate the stopwatch while the crown is pulled out to the first or second click. Pressing a button may accidentally rotate the crown. This will change the time or the date.

Aligning the stopwatch hands

With frequent use, the home positions of the stopwatch hands may shift. When reset, they should point to 12 o'clock. If they do not, use the following procedure:

  1. Press B to reset the stopwatch. Check whether the stopwatch hour, minute and second hands point to 12.
  2. Pull the crown out to the second click.
  3. Press A to move the stopwatch second hand forward to 12 o'clock.
  4. If the stopwatch minute hand is aligned, go to the next step. If the stopwatch hour and minute hands are shifted, press B. They jump to the 12 (60) position.
  5. Push the crown back in to the normal position.

Pulling out the crown also stops the second hand of the main time. After the alignment, set the time again using the procedure described.

Elapsed time bezel

Some models have a rotating elapsed time bezel. Rotate the bezel so that its marker lines up with the minute hand. After some time, look at which bezel mark the minute hand is pointing to. That mark shows the elapsed time.

Battery and accuracy

The watch runs on one silver oxide battery, type SR927W. The battery life is about 5 years. This period is calculated with one stopwatch use of 60 minutes per day. Accuracy at normal temperature is ± 20 seconds per month.
