Casio module 5338: user manual and setup (BA-110, BA-110X)

The module number is engraved on the case back of the watch, among the other markings. It is a four-digit number and is different from the model number. If the case back says 5338, this manual applies to your watch.

Which watches have module 5338

Module 5338 is a combination module: it has analog hands and a digital display. The hands show the time, and the display shows the date, day of the week, seconds and the additional functions. The manual describes five modes: Timekeeping, World Time, Alarm, Stopwatch and Countdown Timer. At Classic this module is found in the following models:

Buttons and modes

In the manual the buttons are marked with the letters A, B, C and D. Button C cycles through the modes: Timekeeping, World Time, Alarm, Stopwatch, Countdown Timer. After the timer, Timekeeping Mode follows again.

Button B turns on the illumination in every mode, except when digits are flashing on the display for a setting. In Timekeeping Mode, D changes the display format. One format shows the day of the week, date, hour and minutes. The other shows the month and day, seconds and the hour with minutes.

In the setting mode, B and D scroll through the values. Holding the button scrolls quickly. If you leave the setting without any action for two to three minutes, the watch exits it on its own. When you enter World Time Mode or Alarm Mode, the last viewed screen is shown.

How to set the time and date

First the Home City and daylight saving time (DST) are set. The accuracy of the world time also depends on them. All settings are made in one sequence.

1. In Timekeeping Mode, hold A for about two seconds until the seconds start to flash.
2. Each press of C moves the flashing forward in this order: seconds, DST, city code, hour, minutes, day, month, year, 12/24-hour format.
3. While the seconds are flashing, press D to reset them to 00.
4. At DST, press D to switch between daylight saving time (ON) and standard time (OFF). When daylight saving time is on, the DST indicator is shown on the display.
5. At the city code, use D (east) and B (west) until the desired city appears. The codes are in the table at the end of the manual.
6. At the hour and minutes, D increases and B decreases the value.
7. At the format, press D to switch between 12H and 24H.
8. At the day, month and year, D increases and B decreases the value.
9. Press A to exit the setting.

In 12-hour format, the P indicator is shown for the hours from noon to 23:59. Before noon there is no indicator. In 24-hour format, the time runs from 0:00 to 23:59 without an indicator. The calendar is fully automatic and accounts for the length of the months and leap years. Once you set the date, a change is needed only after a battery replacement. The day of the week changes automatically.

World Time

The mode shows the current time in 29 time zones covering 48 cities. You enter it with button C. D (east) scrolls through the city codes. The selected city is called the World Time City. The time in the other zones is calculated by UTC offset relative to the Home City. For daylight saving time in a selected city, bring it up on the display and hold A for about two seconds. This switches the city between daylight saving time and standard time.

Alarm and Hourly Time Signal

The watch has five independent daily alarms. One of them is a snooze alarm (SNZ), and the other four are one-time alarms (AL1 to AL4). When an alarm is on, the tone sounds for about 20 seconds when the time reaches the set time.

In Alarm Mode, D switches between the screens AL1, AL2, AL3, AL4, SNZ and SIG. Select the alarm screen, set the time and press A to exit the setting. In 12-hour format, watch for the P indicator for afternoon hours. To turn an alarm or the Hourly Time Signal (SIG) on or off, bring up the screen and press A. To test the tone, hold D in Alarm Mode. The indicators for an active alarm, snooze and the Hourly Time Signal are visible in all modes.

Stopwatch

The Stopwatch measures elapsed time, split times and two finishes. The resolution is 1/100 of a second. The mode is selected with button C. The exact steps for start, stop, split time and two finishes are on pages E-25 to E-27 of the manual.

Countdown Timer

The timer has its own mode, which is selected with C. In it you set the time and start the countdown. At the end a tone sounds, which is stopped in the way described in the manual. The details are on pages E-28 to E-30.

Illumination and button tone

The illumination is turned on with button B. It works in all modes, except when digits are flashing in the setting mode. The button operation tone can be turned on and off. The procedure is described on page E-34 of the manual.
