Casio module 5340: user manual and setup (EFB-109D, EFV-160D)

The module number is printed on the case back of the watch. It is usually a four-digit number engraved next to the model name and the water resistance data. If the back says 5340, the settings below apply to your watch. They are retold from the official Casio manual, and the original PDF is at the end. Casio notes that the actual watch may differ slightly from the illustrations in the manual.

Which watches use module 5340

Casio EFB-109D-1AVEF

Module 5340 is a battery-powered analog movement with hour, minute and second hands and a date display. All settings are made with the crown. There are no buttons, digital display or additional modes. At Classic this module is found in the following Casio Edifice models:

The crown and its positions

The crown has three positions. In the normal position it is pressed against the case and the watch keeps time. At the first click the date is set. At the second click the second hand stops and the time is set.

Some water-resistant models have a screw-lock crown. On these, first unscrew the crown in the direction shown in the manual, and only then pull it out. Do not pull hard. While the crown is unscrewed, the watch is not water resistant. After each setting, screw it back in all the way.

How to set the time and date

Setting the time

  1. Wait for the second hand to reach 12 o'clock. At that moment pull the crown out to the second click. The second hand stops.
  2. Turn the crown and set the hands. Move the minute hand four or five minutes past the desired time. Then move it back to the exact minute. This way the hand sits precisely on the markers.
  3. Push the crown back to the normal position in step with a time signal. The second hand starts again and the watch is synchronized.

Setting the date

  1. Pull the crown out to the first click.
  2. Turn the crown until the desired date appears in the window.
  3. Push the crown back to the normal position.

Do not set the date between 9:00 PM and 1:00 AM. If you do so in this interval, the date may not change on the following day. If needed, wait until the watch shows a time outside this period, and then change the date.

If the watch has a screw-lock crown, screw it in all the way after setting. Otherwise the water resistance is not guaranteed by the design.

Elapsed time bezel

The manual also describes a rotating elapsed time bezel on the watches that have one. Turn the bezel so that its marker lines up with the minute hand. Let the time run. Then look at which bezel marker the minute hand is pointing to. The number shows the minutes elapsed since the start of timing.

Battery and accuracy

The data for module 5340 from the specifications table in the manual is as follows:

  • Battery type: SR920SW.
  • Battery life: approximately 3 years.
  • Accuracy at normal temperature: ±20 seconds per month.

The battery is a standard silver oxide cell with this designation. When the watch stops or starts losing time, the battery is most likely depleted and needs to be replaced.
