Casio module 5359: user manual and setup (EFR-S108D, EFR-S108DE)

The module number is engraved on the case back of the watch. It is a four-digit number, usually enclosed in a small rectangle next to the other markings. If it says 5359, this guide applies to your watch. Casio issues one shared manual for modules 5359 and 5448. The only difference between the two is the battery type, and the setup steps are the same.

Which watches use module 5359

Module 5359 is an analog quartz movement with hour, minute and second hands and a date display. The manual describes setup using the crown only. Some models also have a rotary bezel for measuring elapsed time. At Classic, the following watches from the Casio Edifice series use this module:

The four models differ in dial color and case finish. The movement and the setting procedure are the same.

The crown: positions and operation

The crown has two pulled-out positions. The first position (Click 1) is used to set the date. The second position (Click 2) is used to set the time. In the pushed-in position the watch keeps time normally.

Some water-resistant models (100 or 200 meters) have a screw-lock crown. Before setting, rotate the crown toward you to unscrew it. Then pull it out without applying excess force. While the crown is unscrewed, the watch loses its water resistance. After you finish setting, screw it fully back toward the case.

How to set the time and date

Set the time first, then the date. If your model has a screw-lock crown, unscrew it before the first step.

Setting the time:

Wait until the second hand is exactly at 12 o'clock.
Pull the crown out to the second position (Click 2).
Rotate the crown to set the hour and minutes.
Check whether you are setting a morning or afternoon time (AM or PM). If this is wrong, the date will change at noon instead of midnight.
Move the minute hand four or five minutes past the desired time. Then move it back to the exact minute.
Push the crown back in at the moment of an accurate time signal. The watch continues keeping time.

Setting the date:

Pull the crown out to the first position (Click 1).
Rotate the crown until the desired date appears in the window.
Push the crown back in against the case.

The date works on a 31-day month. After shorter months, correct it manually to the first day. Avoid changing the date between 9:00 PM and 1:00 AM. During this interval the movement prepares the change at midnight, and manual intervention can disrupt it. If you must make a correction at this time, first move the hands outside the interval.

Rotary bezel

If your model has a rotary bezel, it is used to measure elapsed time. Rotate the bezel so that the ▼ mark aligns with the minute hand. From that moment, the distance between the mark and the minute hand shows how much time has passed. This function is handy for parking, cooking or short tasks. The bezel does not affect the running of the watch.

Battery, accuracy and low battery indicator

The accuracy of module 5359 is ±20 seconds per month on average. It is powered by one silver oxide battery, type SR916SW. Battery life is about 3 years under normal use. Module 5448 uses an SR920SW battery, so check the number on the case back before replacement.

Module 5359 has a low battery indicator. When the charge is low, the second hand starts moving in jumps of 2 seconds. The watch still shows the correct time, but the battery should be replaced soon. Specifications are subject to change without notice by the manufacturer.
