Casio module 5476: user manual and setup (GA-2100)

The module number is engraved on the case back of the watch. Look for a four-digit number among the other markings, often in a small rectangle. If it reads 5476, the instructions below apply to your watch. They follow the official Casio manual for this module.

Which watches use module 5476

Module 5476 is a combined analog-digital module. The watch has an hour hand, a minute hand, a mode hand and a digital display. The manual describes built-in sensors for direction and temperature. Casio states that these functions are useful for hiking, mountain climbing and other outdoor activities.

Buttons and modes

The manual labels the buttons with letters: A, B, D and E. The mode hand shows which mode the watch is in. There are seven modes:

• Timekeeping Mode – current time and date, Home City and daylight saving time settings.
• Digital Compass Mode – finding north, bearing to a target and saving a direction in Bearing Memory.
• Thermometer Mode – temperature at the current location.
• World Time Mode – time in one of 48 cities in 31 time zones.
• Stopwatch Mode – measuring elapsed time.
• Countdown Timer Mode – countdown timer.
• Alarm Mode – alarm and Hourly Time Signal.

To return to Timekeeping Mode from any other mode, hold D for about two seconds. The watch returns to Timekeeping Mode on its own if you do not press any buttons for some time. For Alarm and Digital Compass this time is about 3 minutes. For Thermometer it is 1 to 2 minutes. The setting screen closes after about 3 minutes without any operation.

When you enter Alarm, World Time or Digital Compass, the data from the last use is shown. On the setting screen, buttons E and B scroll through the values. Holding them scrolls at high speed.

The digital display shows seconds in Timekeeping, World Time and Countdown Timer. In Stopwatch it shows tenths of a second. When viewing Bearing Memory it shows a direction pointer.

How to set the time and date

Before first use, Casio recommends two checks in this order.

1. Check the Home City and the daylight saving time (DST) setting. Correct World Time depends on an accurate Home City, time and date in Timekeeping Mode.
2. Set the current time and date.

The setting procedure works as follows.

1. In Timekeeping Mode, press A to switch between screens. The date screen shows the month and day. The time screen shows hours, minutes, seconds and the PM indicator.
2. Hold A until ADJ appears in the lower part of the display. This opens the setting screen.
3. On the setting screen, use E and B to change the flashing value.
4. If you do not press a button for about 3 minutes, the watch exits the setting screen on its own.

Home City has two separate settings: selecting the city and choosing between standard and daylight saving time. The full sequence with all fields is on pages E-13 to E-17 of the PDF file below.

Adjusting the hand position

The manual describes a procedure for the home position of the hands (Hand Home Position Adjustment). Use it if the hands do not match the digital time. The steps are on page E-18.

Digital compass

The compass finds north and the bearing to a selected target. The reading can be saved in Bearing Memory. The manual describes bidirectional calibration and magnetic declination correction. Casio recommends calibration if the readings differ from a second compass.

Readings are not possible near a permanent magnet, metal objects, high-voltage or overhead cables and household electrical appliances. When mountain climbing or doing activities where losing your way is dangerous, always carry a second compass. The measurements of the watch are not intended for professional or industrial precision.

Thermometer

Thermometer Mode shows the temperature at the current location. The temperature unit can be changed. The manual also describes calibration of the temperature sensor. The mode closes on its own after 1 to 2 minutes without any operation.

World Time

World Time Mode shows the time in one of 48 cities covering 31 time zones. Daylight saving time can also be set for each city. The Home City and the World Time city can be swapped with a single operation.

Stopwatch

Stopwatch Mode measures elapsed time. The digital display shows tenths of a second. The manual describes split time measurement and measuring two finishes.

Countdown Timer

In Countdown Timer Mode you set the start time for the countdown. After starting, the watch counts down and sounds a signal at the end. The manual describes how to stop this signal.

Alarm and Hourly Time Signal

In Alarm Mode you set the alarm time. The alarm can be tested in advance. The alarm and the Hourly Time Signal are turned on and off separately. The manual also describes how to stop a sounding alarm.

Illumination, button sound and battery

The display is illuminated manually. The illumination duration can be changed. The Auto Light function can be turned on or off as you prefer. The button operation tone can also be turned off.
