Casio module 5522: user manual and setup (GA-700, GA-710GB, GM-700G)

The module number is engraved on the back of the watch, usually in a small rectangle on the case back. If it says 5522, this guide applies to your watch. The description follows the official Casio manual for module 5522.

Which watches use module 5522

Module 5522 is a combination module: the watch has hour and minute hands and a digital display. The hands show the current time, and the display shows the date, modes and settings. According to the manual, these models at Classic use this module:

Buttons and modes of module 5522

The manual labels the buttons with the letters A, B, C, D and L. Button L turns on the illumination. Button C changes modes, and A enters and exits a setting screen. Buttons B and D change values during setting. If you hold them down, the values change at high speed.

The watch has five modes: Timekeeping, Stopwatch, Countdown Timer, World Time and Alarm. Each press of C moves to the next mode. To return to the Timekeeping Mode, hold down C for about two seconds. From the Timekeeping Mode, button D enters the Stopwatch directly. In the Timekeeping Mode, button B changes the display contents.

If you do not press a button for about two to three minutes during setting, the watch exits the setting screen by itself. The hands may block your view of the display. Hold down L and press C to move them out of the way. Hold down L and press C again to return them. When you change modes, the hands return by themselves. They also return after about an hour without a button press. In a setting screen, the hands move out of the way automatically.

How to set the time and date

First check the Home City and daylight saving time (DST). World Time depends on the correct city, time and date in the Timekeeping Mode. After that, set the current time.

1. Hold down C for about two seconds to enter the Timekeeping Mode.
2. Hold down A until the flashing SET Hold text disappears and the setting starts to flash. Release A when the digits are flashing. The hands move out of the way automatically.
3. Use B and D to change the flashing value. Hold down the button for high-speed scrolling.
4. Set all the time and date values in order, as described in the manual.
5. Press A to exit the setting screen.

The day of the week changes automatically when the date changes. Daylight saving time is changed from the Home City settings.

Stopwatch

The Stopwatch measures elapsed time in hours, minutes, seconds and hundredths of a second. From the Timekeeping Mode, press D to start directly. The manual describes elapsed time measurement, split time pause and measurement of two finish times. You can set a Target Time. When the target time is reached, the watch sounds a tone. The tone can be stopped with a button. The Stopwatch also works without a target alarm.

Countdown Timer

Enter the Countdown Timer Mode with button C. The manual describes setting the start time, starting the countdown and stopping the alarm at the end. When the time runs out, the watch sounds a tone.

World Time

In the World Time Mode, you see the current time in one of 48 cities in 31 time zones. You can set standard time or daylight saving time for the selected city. The manual also describes swapping the Home City with the World Time city. Accuracy depends on the correct settings in the Timekeeping Mode.

Alarm and hourly time signal

The watch has four alarms AL1, AL2, AL3 and AL4, a snooze alarm SNZ and an hourly time signal SIG. To set an alarm, hold down A in the Alarm Mode until SET Hold disappears and the hour digits flash. ALM appears on the display. Set the time as morning (no indicator) or afternoon (P indicator). Press A to exit.

• In the Alarm Mode, press D to select an alarm or the hourly time signal.
• Press B to toggle between ON and OFF.
• Hold down D in the Alarm Mode to test the sound.

The indicators for an active alarm, snooze and hourly time signal are visible in all modes.

Illumination

Press L in any mode to illuminate the display. The illumination does not work during setting. The duration can be 1.5 or 3 seconds. The setting is made in the Timekeeping Mode.

Button tone and hand position

The button operation tone can be turned on and off from the Timekeeping Mode. The manual also has a section on correcting the hand position if it does not match the digital time. There is also a troubleshooting section and technical specifications.
