Casio module 5529: user manual and setup (EFS-S650D, EFS-S650DC)

The module number is engraved on the case back of every Casio. It is a four-digit number and is separate from the model number. If the case back says 5529, the manual below applies to your watch.

Which watches have module 5529

Module 5529 is an analog solar movement with a stopwatch. The watch has hour, minute and second hands, a 24-hour hand and a date indicator. Two small hands show the stopwatch minutes and seconds. It is operated with a crown and two buttons, A and B. At Classic this module is found in the following Edifice models:

Crown, buttons and hands

The crown has two pulled-out positions. The first click (Click 1) is used for the date. The second click (Click 2) is used for the time and for resetting the stopwatch hands. Button A starts and stops the stopwatch. Button B takes a split time and resets. With the crown pushed in, button B also shows the battery level.

On some water-resistant models (100 or 200 meters) the crown is a screw-lock crown. Before setting, turn it toward you to unscrew it, then pull it out without force. While the crown is unscrewed, the watch loses its water resistance. After setting, screw it back in all the way.

From the factory there may be a stopper fitted around the crown. Remove it before first use and then set the time. If the model has a rotating bezel, align the ▼ mark with the minute hand. The bezel then shows the time elapsed from that moment.

How to set the time and date

Setting the time:

1. Wait for the second hand to reach 12 o'clock and pull the crown out to the second click (Click 2).
2. Turn the crown to set the hour and minutes. Take care to select morning or afternoon (AM/PM) correctly.
3. Move the minute hand four to five minutes past the desired time and then move it back to the exact position.
4. Push the crown back in on a time signal. The watch starts running again.

Setting the date:

1. Pull the crown out to the first click (Click 1).
2. Turn the crown toward you until the required date appears.
3. Push the crown back in.

The date indicator works with a 31-day month. After shorter months the date is corrected manually. Do not change the date between 9:00 PM and 1:00 AM. Otherwise the date may not change correctly at midnight.

Solar charging

The whole dial is a solar panel that charges a built-in rechargeable battery. Keep the watch in the light as often as possible. When you are not wearing it, leave it in a place exposed to light. For stable operation, at least half a day of light per month is needed. Your sleeve should not cover the dial. Even partial covering reduces charging significantly.

The case can become very hot during charging. Avoid charging on a car dashboard in the sun, near an incandescent lamp or another heat source. Do not leave the watch in direct sunlight for a long time.

Battery level indicator and low charge warning

With the crown pushed in, hold button B for about one second. The stopwatch second hand moves to the charge level. After about two seconds it returns to 12 o'clock.

• H – at least four months of operation
• M – two to four months
• L – no more than two months

When the charge is low, the second hand starts jumping in two-second steps. The watch should then be left in the light.

Charging time

The values are approximate. For daily use the following is enough:

• outdoor sunlight (50,000 lux) – about 6 minutes
• sunlight through a window (10,000 lux) – about 23 minutes
• daylight through a window on a cloudy day (5,000 lux) – about 36 minutes
• indoor fluorescent lighting (500 lux) – about 6 hours

With a fully discharged battery the times are longer. The first value is until the second hand starts moving, the second is until full charge:

• outdoor sunlight – 2 hours and 21 hours
• sunlight through a window – 6 hours and 78 hours
• cloudy day through a window – 10 hours and 125 hours
• fluorescent lighting – 96 hours until the hand starts moving

The actual time depends on the conditions. With a full charge and no light the watch runs for about 5 months.

Stopwatch

The stopwatch measures elapsed time in 1-second steps up to 29 minutes and 59 seconds. Measurement stops automatically after 30 minutes. Do not operate the stopwatch while the crown is pulled out.

• Elapsed time: A start, A stop, A resume, A stop, B reset.
• Split time: A start, B split, B split release, A stop, B reset.
• Two finishers: A start, B at the first finisher (shows their time), A at the second finisher, B shows the time of the second, B reset.

Correcting the home position of the hands

Do this if the stopwatch hands do not return to zero after a reset.

1. Pull the crown out to the second click (Click 2).
2. Use button A (clockwise) and button B (counterclockwise) to move the stopwatch second hand to 12 o'clock. Holding a button moves the hand quickly until you release it. The stopwatch minute hand moves together with the second hand.
3. Push the crown back in.

While the crown is pulled out, the time does not run. After the correction, set the exact time again.
