Casio module 5553: user manual and setup (GM-2110D, GM-B2100BPC)

The module number is engraved on the back cover of the watch. It is a four-digit number, separate from the model name. If the back says 5553, this guide is for your watch. The module defines the functions and the setting procedure, not the case design.

Which watches have module 5553

Module 5553 is a combination module. The watch has hands and a digital display. The manual describes hand alignment and the contents of the digital display in Timekeeping Mode. The watches with this module at Classic are from the G-Shock series.

Watch modes

The manual describes switching between modes and changing the contents of the digital display in Timekeeping Mode. Separate sections cover the following modes and functions:

• Timekeeping Mode with digital display.
• World Time.
• Alarm and hourly time signal.
• Stopwatch.
• Countdown Timer.
• Hand Alignment Adjustment.

The exact button sequence for each mode is in the "Navigating Between Modes" section of the PDF document.

How to set the time and date

1. Check that module 5553 is marked on the back cover.
2. Open the official manual at the section "Time Adjustment – Adjusting the Current Time Setting".
3. Follow the steps in that section to correct the current time.
4. If the hands do not match the digital time, use the section "Adjusting Hand Alignment".
5. Do not press the buttons while the watch is wet or submerged in water.

Home time is linked to the selected city. The list of cities is in the "City Table" at the end of the manual.

World Time

This mode shows the time in another city around the world. The manual describes checking World Time and selecting a city. There is also a function to swap Home Time with World Time. It is useful when travelling, when you want the main display to show the new city.

Alarm and hourly time signal

The watch has an alarm and an hourly time signal. The manual describes setting the alarm and turning on the hourly time signal. A separate section explains how to turn off an alarm or the hourly time signal. The button operation tone can also be turned on from the "Other Settings" section.

Stopwatch

The Stopwatch measures elapsed time. The manual also describes measuring split time. Both functions are in the "Stopwatch" section of the official document.

Countdown Timer

The Countdown Timer counts down from a set start time. The manual describes setting the start time and using the timer. The steps are in the "Timer" section.

Illumination

The display can be read in the dark. The way to turn on the illumination is described in the section "Viewing the Face in the Dark".

Battery and service

Battery replacement requires special tools. Casio recommends that it is done by the original retailer or by an authorized Casio service center. During battery replacement the technician also checks the water resistance. The gaskets are replaced periodically, about once every two or three years.

Water resistance

The water resistance marking is on the back cover or on the front. The manual gives the following examples for everyday use:

• No BAR marking: hand washing and rain. No swimming.
• 5BAR: hand washing, rain, swimming. No windsurfing or diving.
• 10BAR and 20BAR: hand washing, rain, swimming, windsurfing, snorkeling.

The watch is not for scuba diving. Do not operate the buttons while it is wet. Do not wear it in a bath, sauna or heated pool. After sea water, rinse it with clean water. Brief fogging of the glass after a sudden temperature change is normal. If the moisture remains, take the watch to a service center.

Care and precautions

Do not leave the watch on a car dashboard, next to a heater or at very low temperatures. The display may be hard to read below 0 °C and above +40 °C. Prolonged temperature above +60 °C can damage the display.

G-Shock watches are shock-resistant and can be worn during strong vibration and sports. A hard impact from being dropped can still cause damage. The watch works normally in constant magnetic fields up to 4800 A/m. Do not leave it near magnets.

Avoid contact with thinners, gasoline, oils, adhesives, paints and cosmetics. They can discolor or damage the case and the band. Do not fasten the band too tightly. A finger should fit between the band and your wrist. Stop wearing the band if it has cracks, becomes loose or the pins fall out.

Metal parts are cleaned with a soft brush and a weak solution of neutral detergent. Then they are rinsed and dried with a soft cloth. Before storing for a long time, dry the watch and keep it in a cool, dry place.
