Casio module 5554: user manual and setup (GBA-800, GBA-800EL)

The module number is engraved on the case back of the watch. It is a four-digit number in a small rectangle, separate from the model name. If it says 5554, this guide applies to your watch. Casio uses the same module in different models, so the instructions are common to all of them.

Which watches use module 5554

Module 5554 is a combination module. It has analog hands and a digital display with a graphic area. The watch connects to a phone via Bluetooth through the CASIO WATCHES app. It has a step counter, a stopwatch with target time, a countdown timer, alarms and dual time. At CLASSIC the module is found in the following models:

Buttons and modes

The manual describes buttons B, C, D and L. Button C switches between the modes. Holding C for about two seconds returns the watch to Timekeeping Mode from any other mode. In Timekeeping Mode, button B changes the content of the digital display. There are three views: month, day, seconds and day of the week; hour, minutes, seconds and day of the week; step count. Button D is used for connecting to the phone. Button L is used for shifting the hands and is the only button that does not end the phone connection.

The modes are: Timekeeping, Alarm, Stopwatch, Countdown Timer, Dual Time and Recall Mode for viewing records. The graphic area of the display works differently in each mode. In Timekeeping Mode, when the step count is shown, it tracks progress toward the daily target. In the other views it moves with the seconds. In Alarm Mode and in Recall Mode the area is empty.

The display also has indicators. The connection icon appears while a phone connection is active. [P] means afternoon time. [LT] means Auto Light is on. [DST] appears during daylight saving time. [HND] appears when the hands are shifted. [STEPS] means the step count is displayed. [REC] appears in Recall Mode.

How to set the time and date

With module 5554 the time is set mainly through the phone. During a Bluetooth connection the watch takes the time from the phone. Manual setting is described in the section "Adjusting the Time Setting Manually" of the PDF file at the end of the article.

1. Install the CASIO WATCHES app from Google Play or the App Store.
2. Turn on Bluetooth on the phone.
3. Put the watch in Timekeeping Mode.
4. Keep the phone no more than one meter from the watch.
5. Open CASIO WATCHES, go to the "My Watch" section and follow the on-screen instructions for pairing.
6. For immediate time adjustment, press D in Timekeeping Mode. The connection icon and [ADJ] flash on the display.
7. When the connection is established, the icon stops flashing. The watch takes the time from the phone.

If the time is not correct after connecting, adjust the position of the hands and the day indicator. The procedure is in the section "Adjusting Hand Alignment" of the manual. On first launch the app asks for location permission. Allow location use in the background.

Automatic time adjustment

The watch connects to the phone four times a day on a schedule: around 0:30, 6:30, 12:30 and 18:30. It takes the time from an online time server and ends the connection. You do not need to do anything. The function works only while CASIO WATCHES is open on the phone. If a World Time city is set in the app, its time is adjusted as well.

Phone connection (Mobile Link)

For manual connection, hold D for about two seconds. To end the connection, press any button except L. Through the phone you view step counter and stopwatch data and change watch settings. The app offers a choice of more than 300 cities for World Time. The manual also describes a Phone Finder function. There are sections on unpairing and on changing to a different phone.

Shifting the hands

The hands can cover the display. Hold L and press C to shift them. The [HND] indicator appears. Press C to return them to their normal position.

Step counter

The watch counts steps and shows them on the digital display with the [STEPS] indicator. The step indicators show whether counting is active. A daily target can be set, and the graphic area shows progress toward it. The manual describes resetting the daily count and causes of inaccurate counting.

Stopwatch

The Stopwatch measures elapsed time, split times [SPL] and lap times [LAP]. A target time can be set. The [TGT] indicator then shows the status of the measurement. The graphic area shows how close you are to the target. Without a target time the area moves with the seconds. There is an auto start and an interval timer. Measured data is viewed in Recall Mode. Records can be deleted one at a time or all at once.

Countdown Timer

The Countdown Timer counts down from a set start time. The graphic area shows what percentage of the countdown remains. The manual also describes a programmable timer.

Alarms and hourly time signal

When an alarm is on, an alarm indicator is on the display. The hourly time signal indicator appears when the signal is active. The alarms and the signal are turned on and off separately. The manual describes stopping a sounding alarm and checking its status.

Dual Time

This mode shows the time in a second time zone. The graphic area moves with the seconds of the dual time. The Home City and the dual time can be swapped. The manual also describes the daylight saving time setting. During daylight saving time the [DST] indicator is on the display.

Illumination

The face can be illuminated manually. The Auto Light function turns on the illumination automatically. When Auto Light is active, the [LT] indicator is on the display. The illumination duration can be adjusted.

Other settings
