Casio module 5611: user manual and setup (GA-2100, GM-2100, GMA-S2100)

The module number is printed on the case back of the watch, among the other markings. If it says 5611, the instructions below apply to your watch. This module is used in the GA-2100, GA-2110, GM-2100, GMA-S2100 and GMA-P2100 series and in the Edifice EFR-575D.

Which watches have module 5611

Module 5611 is a combination module. The watch has an hour hand, a minute hand and a digital display. The hands show the time in the selected Home City. The display shows the date, the seconds, the day of the week and the data of the other modes. According to the manual, the display text is dark on a light background or light on a dark background, depending on the model.

Buttons and modes

The manual labels the buttons with the letters A, B, C and D. The watch has five modes: Timekeeping (current time), World Time, Stopwatch, Countdown Timer and Alarm.

• Button C cycles through the modes in this order.
• Holding C for at least two seconds returns the watch to Timekeeping Mode from any other mode.
• In the setting mode (flashing digits), buttons B and D change the values. Holding them scrolls quickly.
• If you do not press a button for about two or three minutes during setting, the watch exits the setting mode automatically.

How to set the time and date

Before first use, the manual lists two things to check: the Home City with its daylight saving time setting and the current time. World Time is calculated from these settings, so they must be correct.

1. Hold C for at least two seconds to enter Timekeeping Mode.
2. Set the Home City. The setting has two parts: selecting the city and choosing between standard time and daylight saving time (DST). The procedure is on page E-16 of the manual.
3. After a city code is selected, the watch uses UTC offsets to calculate the time in the other zones.
4. Set the digital time and date using the procedure on page E-19. In the setting mode, the hands move automatically so they do not cover the display.
5. Change the flashing value with B and D. Holding them scrolls quickly.
6. In 12-hour format, a P indicator is shown from noon to 23:59. Before noon there is no indicator. In 24-hour format, the time runs from 0:00 to 23:59 with no indicator.
7. The day of the week changes automatically when the date changes.

In Timekeeping Mode, each press of D changes the display: month and day, or day of the week, together with hours, minutes and seconds. Pressing A shows the name of the Home City in English.

World Time

World Time Mode shows the current time in 48 cities in 31 time zones. When you enter the mode, the code and name of the selected city scroll across the display once. Then the current time in that city is shown. The hands keep showing the Home City time. Standard time or daylight saving time can be selected for each city.

Stopwatch

Stopwatch Mode measures elapsed time. It can stop at a split time and measure two finishes. The detailed steps are on pages E-26 to E-29 of the PDF file.

Countdown Timer

The Countdown Timer is set and started from the mode of the same name. At the end of the countdown an alarm sounds, which is stopped in the way described in the manual. The steps are on pages E-30 to E-32.

Alarm and hourly time signal

Alarm Mode includes five alarms (AL1 to AL5) and an hourly time signal (SIG).

1. In Alarm Mode, use D to select an alarm or the hourly time signal.
2. Hold A until the flashing SET indicator disappears and the hour digits start to flash. Then release A. The display shows ALM, which means the alarm is on.
3. Change the flashing value with B and D. In 12-hour format, watch for a.m. (no indicator) and p.m. (P indicator).
4. Press A to exit the setting.

To test the alarm, hold D in Alarm Mode. To turn it on or off, use D to select an alarm or the hourly time signal and press A. ON means on, and – – means off. The indicators for an alarm that is on and for the hourly time signal are visible in all modes.

Illumination

Pressing B in any mode illuminates the display. The duration can be 1.5 or 3 seconds. This setting is changed from Timekeeping Mode using the procedure on page E-38.

Moving the hands out of the way

The hands can be moved temporarily so they do not cover the display. Press B and C at the same time. The hour and minute hands move to a position that does not block reading. Pressing B and C again returns them. Changing the mode also returns the hands. If you do not press any buttons for about one hour, they return on their own. The button functions are the same while the hands are moved.

Button sound and hand positions

The sound when a button is pressed can be turned on or off. The setting is in Timekeeping Mode and is described on page E-41. The manual also contains a procedure for correcting the hand positions (Adjusting Hand Positions, page E-39).
