Casio module 5613: user manual and setup (GMA-S140M)

The module number is engraved on the back of the watch, on the case back. It is different from the model number. If it says 5613, this guide applies to your watch. The Casio manual is shared by modules 5612 and 5613.

Which watches use module 5613

Module 5613 is a combination module: it has analog hands and a digital display. The analog time is synchronized with the digital time. When you change the digital time, the hands adjust automatically. At Classic this module is found in the G-Shock GMA-S140M series:

Buttons and modes

In the manual the buttons are marked with the letters A, B, C and D. Button C switches the modes in this order: Timekeeping, Stopwatch, Countdown Timer, Alarm and World Time. In every mode except the setting mode, button B turns on the illumination. In Timekeeping Mode, button D switches the digital display between the date and the Home City time.

How to set the time and date

1. In Timekeeping Mode, hold A for at least three seconds. The city code starts flashing in the lower digital display. This is the setting mode.
2. Use D (east) and B (west) to select your Home City code. Do this before all other settings. The city code table is at the end of the manual.
3. Use C to move through the settings in this order: city code, DST, seconds, hour, minutes, year, month, day, 12/24-hour format and illumination duration.
4. When the setting you need is flashing, change it. The seconds reset to 00 with D. Hour, minutes, year, month and day change with D (+) and B (–).
5. Use D to switch between 12-hour (12H) and 24-hour (24H) format. The selected format applies in all modes.
6. Press A to exit the setting mode. The day of the week is shown automatically according to the date.

In 12-hour format the PM indicator is shown for the hours from noon to 23:59. In 24-hour format the time runs from 0:00 to 23:59 with no indicator.

Daylight Saving Time (DST)

DST moves the time one hour forward from standard time. Not all countries and regions use it. Hold A for three seconds in Timekeeping Mode until the city code flashes. Press C to reach the DST screen. Use D to switch between on and OFF. The default setting is OFF. Exit with A. When DST is on, the DST indicator is shown on the display.

Stopwatch

The Stopwatch measures elapsed time, lap times and split times. The range of the digital display is 99 hours, 59 minutes and 59.999 seconds. After this limit, counting starts again from zero. Measurement continues after you leave the mode. The upper digital segments then appear and disappear in time with the seconds.

If you set a distance, the watch calculates and shows speed. The value can mean kilometers, miles or another unit. At a value of 0.0, speed is not calculated. For laps you can set the distance of one lap or the total distance. For split times only the total distance is set. To set it, enter Stopwatch Mode and make sure the Stopwatch is stopped and reset. It is reset with A. Then hold A for at least three seconds until the value flashes in the upper display. Before any button operation, check that the speed hand is not moving.

Countdown Timer

Countdown Timer Mode is selected with C. The manual describes setting the start time and the auto-repeat function. The detailed steps are on pages E-26 to E-29 in the PDF document.

World Time

In World Time Mode you see the current time in another time zone. For each city code you can switch between standard time and daylight saving time. There is also a function to swap the Home City with the World Time city. The steps are on pages E-30 to E-33.

Alarms and Hourly Time Signal

In Alarm Mode you set an alarm time, which can be turned on or off. The watch also has an Hourly Time Signal, which is controlled separately. The description is on pages E-34 to E-38.

Illumination

For manual illumination, press B in any mode except the setting mode. The duration is selected in the time settings: 1.5 seconds (LT1) or three seconds (LT3). The watch also has an auto light switch. After you turn it on, it turns off by itself after about six hours. Repeat the procedure if you want to turn it on again. Casio recommends turning off the auto light switch before riding a bicycle, motorcycle or any other motor vehicle. Sudden illumination can be distracting and lead to an accident.

Hand adjustment

If for any reason the analog time does not match the digital time, use the procedure "To adjust home positions". It is on page E-44 and includes checking the home positions of the hour and minute hands.
