Casio module 5663: user manual and setup (GM-2100, GM-S2100, GBM-2100)

The module number is printed on the case back of the watch, next to the other engraved markings. Look for a four-digit number near the water resistance marking. If it reads 5663, this manual applies to your watch, regardless of colour and model.

Which watches use module 5663

Module 5663 is a combined analogue-digital module. The watch has hands and a digital display. The manual describes hand alignment and moving the hands so the display can be seen. The hands are driven by a motor that uses magnetic force. At Classic this module is found in the following G-Shock models:

Watch modes

The manual explains how to switch between the modes of the watch. The main mode is the Timekeeping Mode. In it the digital display can switch between different contents. Separate sections cover World Time, the alarm, the stopwatch and the countdown timer. There is also a section with other settings, including the button operation tone.

How to set the time and date

Setting the current time is described in the "Time Adjustment" section of the manual. Here is the order to follow:

1. Check that the case back reads 5663. Otherwise the steps may differ.
2. Open the "Adjusting the Current Time Setting" section in the PDF document below.
3. Set the current time following the steps described there.
4. If the hands do not match the digital time, use the "Adjusting Hand Alignment" section.
5. Do not press the buttons while the watch is wet or under water.

World Time

The watch shows the time in another city of the world. The manual has a section on checking World Time. A separate section explains how to select the World Time city. The full list of cities is in the "City Table" at the end of the document.

Alarm and Hourly Time Signal

Module 5663 has an alarm, which is set as described in the manual. There is also an Hourly Time Signal, which is turned on separately. The manual also explains how to turn off the alarm or the Hourly Time Signal.

Stopwatch

The stopwatch measures elapsed time. It can also record split time. There is also a mode for timing the first and second place finishers. Each of these functions is described step by step in the document.

Countdown Timer

The countdown timer counts down from a set start time. The manual first describes how to set the start time. It then explains how to use the timer itself.

Reading the display and illumination

The hands sometimes cover the digital display. The manual describes how to move the hands so the display can be read. There is also a section on viewing the dial in the dark.

Hand alignment

A strong impact or a magnetic field can shift the hands. Then they do not match the digital time. The "Hand Alignment Adjustment" section explains how to correct their position.

Water resistance

The water resistance level is marked on the face or on the case back. The manual gives the following guidance by marking:

• No marking: the watch is not protected from water and sweat. Avoid moisture and splashes.
• WATER RESIST without BAR: hand washing and rain are acceptable. Swimming is not.
• 5BAR: suitable for hand washing, rain, water activities and swimming. Not for windsurfing and diving.
• 10BAR: additionally suitable for windsurfing and skin diving.
• 20BAR: the same activities as for 10BAR.

Do not use the watch for scuba diving. Do not press the buttons under water or when they are wet. Avoid baths, saunas and heated pools. After seawater, rinse the watch with clean water. Do not wear the watch when working with soap or detergents. To maintain water resistance, the gaskets are replaced every two to three years. If the glass fogs up and does not clear, stop wearing the watch and take it to a service centre.

Battery and care

Replacing the battery requires special tools. Casio recommends that it be done by the retailer or an authorised service centre. During replacement the technician also checks the water resistance. Do not leave the watch on a car dashboard, next to a heater or at very low temperatures. The display is hard to read below 0 °C and above 40 °C. Prolonged exposure above 60 °C can damage the display. Avoid contact with thinners, petrol, oils, adhesives, cosmetics and medicines. They can damage the case and the band. Do not fasten the band too tightly, so it does not irritate the skin. A finger should fit between the band and the wrist. If the band shows cracks, discolouration or loosening, stop using it. If you do not wear the watch for a long time, dry it and store it in a dry, cool place.
