Casio module 5706: user manual and setup (GM-2110, GM-S2110, GM-S110)

The module number is engraved on the case back of the watch, among the other markings. If it says 5706, this guide applies to your watch. The module defines the functions and the setup procedure, not the commercial name of the model.

Which watches have module 5706

Module 5706 is a combination analog-digital module. The watch has hands and a digital display. The manual describes how the hands are shifted so the display can be seen, and how their position is corrected. The module is found in Casio G-Shock watches from the GM-2110, GM-S2110 and GM-S110 series. At Classic, the watches with module 5706 are:

Watch modes

The manual for module 5706 describes the following modes and functions:

• Timekeeping (current time) – with switching of the digital display contents.
• World Time – checking the time in another city and selecting a city.
• Alarm – setting an alarm and turning on the hourly time signal.
• Stopwatch – elapsed time, split time and first and second place finish times.
• Timer – countdown from a set start time.

How to set the time and date

Setting the current time is described in the section "Time Adjustment – Adjusting the Current Time Setting". The approach is as follows:

1. Check on the case back that the module is 5706.
2. Open the PDF manual from the link below and find the section "Adjusting the Current Time Setting".
3. Follow the steps exactly as shown there, using the button labels from the diagram in the manual.
4. If after the setting the hands do not match the digital display, use the section "Adjusting Hand Alignment".

World Time

World Time Mode shows the time in another city. The manual has two sections: checking the world time and setting the city. The list of cities is in the City Table at the end of the document.

Alarm and hourly time signal

The manual describes setting the alarm and turning on the Hourly Time Signal. A separate section explains how to turn off an alarm or the hourly time signal.

Stopwatch

The stopwatch measures elapsed time. It can also record a split time. There is also a function for recording the times of the first and second place finishers.

Timer

The timer counts down from a set start time. The manual describes setting the start time and using the timer.

Illumination and reading the display

The section "Viewing the Face in the Dark" describes how to see the face in the dark. The hands can cover the digital display. For this reason there is a separate function for shifting them (Shifting Hands to Read the Digital Display).

Hand position

If the hands do not show the same time as the digital display, their position is corrected through the section Hand Alignment Adjustment. The manual notes that the hands of combination watches are driven by a motor using magnetic force.

Water resistance

The water resistance marking is on the front of the watch or on the case back. The manual gives the following examples for everyday use:

• No BAR marking: hand washing and rain – yes; swimming, windsurfing and diving – no.
• 5BAR: hand washing, rain, water-related work and swimming – yes; windsurfing and diving – no.
• 10BAR and 20BAR: hand washing, rain, swimming, windsurfing and skin diving without tanks – yes.

The watch is not intended for scuba diving with tanks. Do not press the buttons or turn the crown while the watch is under water or wet. Do not wear the watch in a bath, sauna or heated pool. Keep it away from soaps and detergents during washing and housework. After contact with seawater, rinse it with fresh water. To maintain water resistance, the gaskets are replaced periodically, about every two to three years.

Battery

Replacing the battery requires special tools. The manual recommends that it be done by the retailer or by an authorized Casio service center. During the replacement, the technician also checks the water resistance of the watch.

Caring for the watch

Do not leave the watch on a car dashboard, near a heater or at very low temperatures. Temperatures above +60 °C for a long time can damage the liquid crystal display. The display is hard to read below 0 °C and above +40 °C. G-Shock models have a shock-resistant construction and can be worn during strong vibrations and active sports. Avoid contact with thinners, gasoline, oils, adhesives, cosmetics and cleaning agents. Metal parts are cleaned with a soft brush and a weak solution of neutral detergent. They are then rinsed and dried with a soft cloth. The band should not be too tight, a finger should fit under it. If the band cracks, discolors or loosens, stop using it and have it checked.
