Casio module 5711: user manual and setup (GA-2100, GA-2100BCE, GA-2100CM)

The module number is engraved on the case back of the watch, separately from the model name. If it says 5711 there, this manual applies to your watch. The module is used in the GA-2100, GA-2100BCE, GA-2100CM, GA-2100K and GA-2100WD families. All of them are set in the same way.

Which watches have module 5711

Module 5711 is a combined analog-digital module. The manual describes the hands, the digital display and a function for shifting the hands so the display can be read. There is also a separate setting for hand alignment. The watches belong to the G-Shock series, which Casio defines as shock-resistant. At Classic, the following models have this module:

Functions and modes according to the manual

The manual has a section on switching between modes ("Navigating Between Modes"). There is also a section on changing the content of the digital display in Timekeeping Mode. World Time, the alarm, the stopwatch, the countdown timer and hand alignment are described separately. The exact buttons and sequences are shown in the PDF file at the end of the article. Before the first setup, review the "General Guide" and "Indicators" sections for the display indicators.

How to set the time and date

1. Check whether the hands match the reading on the digital display. If they do not match, first use the "Hand Alignment Adjustment" section.
2. Open the "Time Adjustment – Adjusting the Current Time Setting" section. The steps for the current time are described there.
3. If the hands cover the display, use the function for shifting the hands ("Shifting Hands to Read the Digital Display").
4. For cities and time zones, the manual includes a table of cities ("City Table").
5. If the watch does not respond as you expect, see the "Troubleshooting" section.

Do not press the buttons while the watch is wet or under water. This is an explicit Casio instruction for all water-resistant models.

World Time

The module has a World Time function. The manual describes how to check the time in another city and how to select the city for World Time. The list of cities is in the "City Table" section at the end of the document.

Alarm and hourly time signal

The watch has an alarm and an hourly time signal, which marks every full hour. The manual describes setting the alarm, turning on the hourly time signal and turning off both functions. Each of them is controlled separately.

Stopwatch

The stopwatch measures elapsed time. There is also split time measurement ("Split Time"). A separate section shows how to time the first and second finishers.

Countdown Timer

The countdown timer counts down from a set start time. The manual first describes setting the start time, then using the timer.

Illumination and button tone

The "Viewing the Face in the Dark" section describes how to illuminate the face in the dark. The tone when pressing the buttons can be turned on and off ("Enabling the Button Operation Tone").

Hand alignment

After a strong impact or a magnetic field, the hands may not match the digital time. The hands are driven by a motor using magnetic force, so the manual draws attention to proximity to electronic devices. The "Adjusting Hand Alignment" section describes how to return them to the correct position.

Battery and water resistance

Replacing the battery requires special tools. Casio recommends that it be done by the retailer or by an authorized Casio service center. During replacement, the technician also checks the water resistance. The gaskets are replaced periodically, about every two to three years.

Water resistance depends on the marking on the case back. At 5 BAR, hand washing, rain and swimming are allowed, but not windsurfing and diving. At 10 BAR, windsurfing and skin diving without a tank are added. At 20 BAR, the same activities apply. The watch is not for scuba diving with tanks. After sea water, rinse it with clean water. Do not wear it in a bath, sauna or pool with hot water. If the glass fogs up and does not clear, stop using it and contact a service center.

Caring for the watch

Do not leave the watch on a car dashboard, next to a heater or at very low temperatures. Above +60 °C the display may be damaged. Below 0 °C and above +40 °C the display is harder to read. Keep it away from thinners, gasoline, oils, adhesives, cosmetics and medicines with such ingredients. They damage the resin and the band.

Do not fasten the band too tightly. A finger should fit between it and the wrist. If there are cracks, discoloration or loosening, stop wearing the band and have it checked. Metal parts are cleaned with a soft brush and a mild neutral detergent, then rinsed and dried. If you will not use the watch for a long time, wipe it and store it in a cool, dry place.
