Casio module 5742: user manual and setup (EFB-730D)

The module number is engraved on the case back of the watch. It is usually a four-digit number in a small rectangle, separate from the model number. If it says 5742, this guide applies to your watch. It is a retelling of the official Casio manual for module 5742.

Which watches use module 5742

Module 5742 is an analog quartz movement with hands. Besides the hour, minute and second hands, it has a 24-hour hand and a date indicator. The stopwatch has separate minute and second hands. Casio notes that some models use a rotating disc instead of a hand. At Classic, the module is found in the following models from the Edifice series:

Buttons and crown

The watch has two buttons and a crown. Button A is the upper one, button B is the lower one. The crown has two pulled-out positions. The first click (Click 1) is used for the date. The second click (Click 2) is used for the time and for adjusting the stopwatch hands.

Some water-resistant models rated 10BAR or 20BAR have a screw-lock crown. Before using it, rotate it toward you to unscrew it. Then pull it out without excessive force. While the crown is unscrewed, the watch is not water resistant. After setting, screw it back in fully.

How to set the time and date

Setting the time:

1. Wait for the second hand to reach 12 o'clock.
2. Pull the crown out to the second click (Click 2).
3. Rotate the crown to set the hour and minutes.
4. Push the crown back in at an accurate time signal to start the watch.

Take care to set the correct morning or afternoon time. The 24-hour hand serves as a guide. When setting, move the minute hand four or five minutes past the desired time. Then move it back to the exact minute.

Setting the date:

1. Pull the crown out to the first click (Click 1).
2. Rotate the crown away from you to change the date.
3. Push the crown back in.

The date indicator works with a 31-day month. At the end of shorter months, the date is corrected manually. Do not change the date between 9:00 PM and 1:00 AM. In this interval the movement prepares the date change, and it may not turn over correctly at midnight.

Rotating bezel

If your model has a rotating bezel, you can use it to measure elapsed time. Rotate the bezel so that the ▼ mark aligns with the minute hand. The position of the minute hand relative to the mark then shows the elapsed minutes.

Stopwatch

The stopwatch measures elapsed time to one second up to 59 minutes and 59 seconds. Measurement stops automatically after 60 minutes. Do not use the stopwatch while the crown is pulled out.

Elapsed time: A start, A stop, A resume, A stop, B reset.

Split time: A start, B split, B return to current measurement, A stop, B reset.

Two finishes: A start, B at the first finish (shows the time of the first runner), A at the second finish, B shows the time of the second runner, B reset.

Adjusting the home position of the hands

If the stopwatch hands do not return exactly to 12 o'clock after a reset, use this procedure.

1. Pull the crown out to the second click (Click 2).
2. Use button B (clockwise) or A (counterclockwise) to move the stopwatch second hand to 12 o'clock.
3. Holding the button moves the hand quickly until you release it.
4. The stopwatch minute hand is synchronized with the second hand and is adjusted together with it.
5. Push the crown back in.

While the crown is pulled out, the watch does not keep time. After the procedure, set the correct time again.

Battery and accuracy

The watch runs on one silver oxide battery of type SR920SW. Its life is about 3 years with 60 minutes of stopwatch use per day. Accuracy is on average ±20 seconds per month. Replacing the battery requires special tools. Casio recommends that it be done by the retailer or at an authorized service center, where water resistance is also checked.

Water resistance and care

The marking on the case back shows the level of water resistance. At 10BAR, the watch is suitable for swimming, windsurfing and skin diving. Do not use the watch for scuba diving. Do not operate the crown and buttons while the watch is wet. Avoid baths, saunas and contact with soap and detergents. After seawater, rinse the watch with clean water. The gaskets are replaced every two or three years.

Keep the watch away from strong magnets, speakers and magnetic accessories. Magnetism can slow down, speed up or stop the hands. Avoid strong impacts and extreme temperatures, such as a car dashboard or proximity to a heating appliance.
